Karen Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 5, 2024.
Karen Ruth Adams, 69, passed away on January 21, 2024, in Bernardston, MA. She was born on February 20, 1954, in Rochester, NY. Karen was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Karen's growth game was strong and best captured in her work with trauma survivors. She dedicated her career to community acupuncture, providing compassionate care to those in need. Her work with Veterans, using acupuncture to promote healing, was a source of joy and grace for her.

The Chinese Green Dragon is the guardian spirit of the East. It represents birth and re-birth, growth, strength, awakenings... and hope. It is benevolent, offering compassion and open hearts and hands to others. It was the symbol of her clinic - and of her patients who strive to grow stronger, who wish to be of service to others, and who hope, always hope.

In addition to her dedication to her career, Karen had a passion for gardening and music. She found joy in tending to her garden, cultivating beautiful blooms and nurturing life. Music was another avenue through which she expressed her creativity and found solace.

Karen is survived by her loving daughters, Kirsten Bergstrom and Meghann (Josh) Parkinson, as well as her cherished grandchildren, Zoe and Jack Parkinson. She is also survived by her brothers, David and Tom Adams, and her extended family, including Mike Conrad, Josh (Heather) Adams, Carmen (Leo) Paparelli, and Rigel Spencer Massaro. Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Conrad, and her daughter, Faith Bergstrom.

A celebration of Karen's life will be held in the spring, with details to be provided at a later date. Her Caring Bridge page will remain open and the date of service will be announced there. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her memory to Freedom Alliance at https://freedomalliance.org , an organization close to her heart.

Karen will be remembered for her unwavering compassion, her dedication to helping others, and her love for her family. She leaves behind a legacy of growth, strength, and hope, which will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Hopefully, I have the right "Karen Adams"?

When I was a student at Hampshire College, I did my year-long Div. III research project "No Place Like Home" (similar to a senior thesis or a dissertation) on Residential Programs for Latency Age Abused Children and designed my own therapeutic program in 1989-1990. Karen was on my committee, along with two professors, and helped to evaluate and strengthen my work and guide my learning. In my dedication at the beginning of this 200-page project, I wrote "To Karen Adams, whose comments and undying faith in me kept me going...". I remember Karen as an energetic, very kind, compassionate woman, who worked hard to advocate for, and help abused children in the community. I learned of National Child Right's Alliance through working with Karen, and worked together to educate teens about child abuse and available help and resources in a local Middle and High School in Western Mass., one of my most favorite and fulfilling experiences in college. She was a truly wonderful woman, who gave her everything to help others. She will be greatly missed.

I met Karen when we were both 22 years old in Medina. She lived at one end of the block and I lived at the other one.. She has always been a friend and I am deeply shocked to hear about her passing. Rest in.peace ,Karen

Karen was a kind and caring person, a horselover, and I will truly miss her. Her accupuncture skills helped me immensely while awaiting hip surgery.

Karen was my friend and acupuncturist. She turned me onto the first book by Grand Master Lu called The Dragon's Way. It describes the mind body connection between stress and excess weight, managing them with Wu Ming qi gong, Five Element Theory, and healthy eating. We did The Dragon's Way Qi Gong together then asked others to join. She was always encouraging us. It's a practice that changed my life and that I still do. Thank you, Karen!

Peter and I have known Karen and the family for so many years. I can't remember when we first met. I have a clear memory of our conversations together, wherever we happened to see each other - we would stop and "catch up" with our family news. Her daughters and our children knew each other through connections that developed from Quaker meetings, etc. So many stories, here and in England when she lived there.

To know Karen was a wonderfully enriching experience. Kind and generous, a healer of such depth. And, an inspiration. She will be missed by so many.
