Karen Gladstone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 26, 2023.
We sadly announce that Karen Ellen Gladstone, 68, of Cedar City, Utah, was found dead Wednesday April 19, 2023, at her home, of natural causes.

She was born October 3, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Norman and Dolores (Kay) Gladstone. Karen was a 1972 graduate of Southfield High School in Southfield, Michigan, and was a 1976 graduate of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. She was married to and divorced from Lyle R. Quackenbush of Orford, New Hampshire, with whom she had remained friends.

She worked for several years as a computer programmer for a medical research organization in Albany, New York, and retired early on disability.

Earlier in her life, Karen enjoyed travel, visiting friends and relatives, and had lived in Mexico as a foreign exchange student, to become more fluent in the Spanish language. She enjoyed reading fantasy and science fiction, modern art, and humor such as Kliban Cat Cartoons and Comics. She loved listening to and making music; she played guitar, piano, and ukulele, and sang along with her family as a youth on road trips and gatherings around the piano.

She loved cats, fixing things, and finding her own solutions rather than simply following a custom. She lived a quiet life in her later years.

She is survived by her brother Paul Gladstone, of Southfield, Michigan; her sister Susan Gladstone, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and her sister Lisa Gladstone, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and their respective families.

The family has been assisted by Kramer Family Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Salt Lake City, Utah. Expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kramerfamilyfuneral.com
