Karen Harland Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2023.
HARLAND, Karen E. (Morley) Age 85 of Dedham died, and has joined her late husband, Charles R. "Poppy" Harland, peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family, on Thursday, February 16, 2023. She was the mother of Charles Robert Harland, Jr. "Chuck"; Denise Marie (Harland) Barry and her husband, James Barry of Franklin; Diane Mary (Harland) Rotolo and her husband, Robert Rotolo of Dedham; Scott Martin Harland and his wife, Christine Harland of Whitinsville; and Karalyn May Harland, of Norwood. She was "Nana", the adored grandmother to Stephen Charles Harland, Ryan James Barry and his wife Rachel Kopp, Jillian Rose (Barry) Metz and her husband Christopher Metz, Daniel Charles Barry, Shane Harland Smida, Dean Michael Smida and Caroline Eva Harland. Her first great grandchild will bless her family in August.
She was the daughter of the late Martin J. Morley and Margaret L. (Molway) Morley and sister to her only sibling, her much-loved sister, Patricia A. Fitzgibbon of Norwood.
She leaves behind her very best, life-long friend, Aline B. Flynn of Nashville, TN.
Prior to marrying and starting her family, Karen worked at the Boston Globe. She then dedicated herself to raising her children and providing them with much love and support as they began families of their own. She found much joy and happiness with her grand dogs, Riley, and Isabelle "Izzy".
She will forever be remembered as "Chuck's Mom".
The family would like to again express their sincere gratitude to the "Lincoln Street" families who supported Charles, Karen, and Chuck for so many years and continue to include Chuck in the activities that occur on "the best street in Dedham".
Her daughters, Denise, Diane and Karalyn will be forever grateful to "Karen's Angels", Marva, Sophia, and Gail and to Chuck's best friend, Kenny. At the family's request, services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations, to be made to BAMSI, 10 Christy Drive, Brockton, MA 02301, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a vision of driving change and creating equal opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental and behavioral health challenges.
