On Thursday, November 14, 2013, Karen G. Spence, 56, of Pine Twp., beloved wife of 26 years to Richard E. "Dick" Spence. Survived by her loving children, David, TJ, and Lauren Spence; her mother, Norma Gula; siblings, John Gula, Jr., Mary (Mark) Howe, Kathie (Kip) Cooper, Susanna (Paul) Sapsara, and George (Mary Jean) Gula. Karen was preceded in death by her father, John Gula. Friends received Saturday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 1-4 p.m. at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 10 a.m. in St. Alexis Catholic Church. Karen was an all around volunteer at St. Alexis, where she ran the Certificate Program, coordinated the festival games, was a homeroom mother, helped with Girl Scouts, vacation bible camp, Junior Achievement, book fair, flea market, cafeteria and playground supervisor. She enjoyed vacationing and exploring the western national parks with her family and spending time with her kids, traveling, photography and gardening. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Alexis Catholic School, 10090 Old Perry Hwy. ,Wexford, PA 15090.

My cousin Larry Lennon just informed me of Karen's passing. He asked if I knew a Karen Gula from St. Gerard's and a smile came across my face as I remembered Karen from growing up together in Penn Hills. We went to the same church and marched in the color guard together in high school. She was one of those rare people who always had a smile for everyone and made everyone feel as if they were her best friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. My deepest sympthy to her family at this very difficult time.

I have not seen Karen in many years but thought of her often when traveling through Penn Hills. I always enjoyed hearing about her through her sister Susie. I am so saddened to hear of her passing. I have many fond memories of Karen but one that will always remain with me is that beautiful smile and the kindness she extended to everyone he knew her. My deepest sympathies go out to her family during this challenging time. The world is a lesser place without her but she will surely bring an added ray of sunshine to heaven.

We feel so much sympathy for you and the kids. If you remember Chuck passed into heaven at the same age. It is difficult to accept when a beautiful life is cut short before our eyes. But the Lord sees us in different eyes of love..We can only be comforted knowing that He loves her as much as you have and will bring her home. Our prayers are with you all...
