Karen Braucher Tobin passed peacefully Jan. 8 of this year after a multi-year struggle with cancer. She was her vivacious and happy self through much of her struggle and accepted her imminent passing with grace.
Karen and her husband Roger were married for 45 years and lived in Oregon, Colorado, Massachusetts and North Carolina. Karen had a diverse career in teaching, business management, writing and publishing, backed up by a BA in English, a MEd in teaching, an MBA in Marketing, and a MFA in writing. She was an accomplished and award winning poet with five books of poetry and multiple individual poems published in journals. She also loved swimming, gardening, hiking and reading.
Karen is survived by her husband, Roger Tobin of Beaverton, Ore.; her daughter, Elizabeth Li Tobin of Tualatin; and her brother, William Braucher of Billerica, Mass. She was preceded in death by her father, Justice Robert Braucher of the Massachusetts Supreme Court; her mother, Elizabeth King Braucher;as well as her two older sisters, Roberta Braucher Ross, and Jean Braucher Wohl.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023, at First Unitarian Church at 1011 S.W. 12th Ave., Portland, OR 97205, and will also be livestreamed for remote viewing and can be viewed at a later time at: https://www.firstunitarianportland.org/service-livestream/.
