Karina Ditto Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 16, 2011.
Karina Peña Benitez was born in Mexico City, Mexico on September 26, 1972, but she grew up with her four siblings in La Paz, Baja California Sur, where she attended high school at Secondario 34. She was working at a book store when she met her husband, David Ditto, and it was love at first sight.

Karina moved to National City, CA when she married David on August 7, in 1994. She spoke very little English, but immediately started learning the language very quickly. It was clear from her relationship with her step-daughter, Jessica Ditto, that Karina was cut out to be a great mother. Karina's son, Gabriel, was born in 1996 and her daughter, Keila, was born four years later.

From the beginning, Karina was an amazing mother, and through countless walks to school, baseball games, dance recitals and school projects, she was always there to support her family.

Karina earned her GED certificate from the San Diego Community College District in 2008, and started working at Kohl's department store in August 2009. When Karina wasn't working, she enjoyed reading, watching movies, gardening, playing games, laughing, and making others laugh.

Karina is survived by her husband, David Patrick Ditto; her son, Gabriel Bradley Ditto; her daughter, Keila Shania Ditto; her stepdaughter, Jessica Ann Ditto; her mother, Silvia Benitez Gonzalez; her father, Gerardo Peña Lopez; her three brothers, Fernando Peña Benitez, Rene Peña Benitez, and Gonzalo Peña Benitez; her sister, Alma Peña Benitez. Karina is also survived by her Fathers-in-Law, James Richard Ditto, and Billy Doughty; her Mothers-in-Law, Patricia Ann Doughty and Sally Ann Ditto; her brother-in-law, Michael Richard Ditto; her sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret Cascio and Tracey Ann Ditto, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Karina was, without a doubt, a special and unique person. I was her English teacher at National City Adult School in the late 90s. She learned fast and always had a great smile. She was liked by all of her classmates. A truly beautiful family and Karina's greatness will endure in Gabriel and Keila. She will remain in our hearts and thoughts forever...

Karina,
What else can I say? You were the most amazing student we have ever had at Continuing Education North City Campus. You were always a committed student always asking for help even though at times it forces me to think hard too not to mention learning Spanish! You inspire many others not only in the classroom but in life too. One example is me, simple comments like "you're a good tutor" mean a lot to me and it paved my way into really teaching as a profession. Thank you for all those heart to heart talks, keeping your classmates on task, and basically making everyone around you feel loved not just in North City!!!

Dear Karina,
I hold a warm place in my heart for you as you were a beautiful 2nd Mommy to my/our daughter Jessica. You showed her grace, love, strength, wisdom, taught her the most beautiful Spanish, you were always there for her and I will always be in your debt. I am so blessed as I could not have asked for a better second Mommy. I am so grateful I was able to tell you this in person and now share this here, for you will always have a warm special place in my heart. I can't seem to put into words my feelings, I am beyond grateful to you, and I know without a doubt you will continue to watch over Jessica for the rest of her days on Earth, God Bless you Karina.

Karina,

What to say?? I have so much on my mind yet not the right words to express the feelings I have. You know I loved you like a mother and will always continue to do so. I have become the woman I am today because of your loving ways. I know if I could go back in time I would gladly have put my hand in yours the day you married my father. Thank you for filling my heart with laughter!! Your strong and free spirit will always live within Gabe, Keila and I.

I Love You,

To the Ditto family,
We are here for you during this time. Our prayers and support are with you always. This special bond we with your family was all made possible through our children. It was because of them, that we have so many wonderful memories of quality family time filled with laughter, cheer and joy, as we all watched them play around with that little white baseball. We have watched our children grow up together and we have all felt that family circle we all are a part of. So we too feel your pain and we grieve with you also. May god bless you all, and may he bless Karina.
