Kate ("Kitty") Bigelow Benton

Providence - Kate (Kitty) Bigelow Benton, born March 29, 1935, in Cambridge, MA, to Albert and Sylvia Bigelow, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, in Providence, RI, surrounded by her family. A lifelong artist, musician, designer, author, sailor, and devoted mother, Kitty led an extraordinary life full of creativity and curiosity. After raising four daughters, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Fashion Institute of Technology, founded Kitty Benton, Inc. a successful children's fashion business, authored three sewing books, and later became a docent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. An accomplished violinist and longtime New Yorker, she was honored with the Helen Rice Award by the Associated Chamber Music Players in 2022. Kitty loved the sea, language, and games, spending her summers sailing on Buzzards Bay, where a celebration of her life will be held next summer. She is survived by her daughters Frances, Kate, Emily, and Louisa, and their families. Donations in her memory may be made to The Buzzards Bay Coalition or The Association of Chamber Music Players.
