Katherine Stickney Cowles Katherine Stickney Cowles, 88, a homemaker, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193) is handling arrangements. Born in Atlanta, the youngest of five children, Kathy spent her youth in Havana, Cuba. She was married in Tallahassee in 1946 at St. John's Episcopal Church. As the wife of a Foreign Service officer, they were stationed in Haifa, Israel; Naples and Trieste, Italy. She returned to Tallahassee in 1968 and became involved with Springtime Tallahassee and the Monticello Opera house. She was a member of St John's Episcopal Church, the Tallahassee Symphony, DAR, and the Tallahassee Cotillion Club. She loved music, dancing, gardening, her family and summers in Vermont. She is survived by her four children, David Cowles (Carla), Kitty Watkins (Ernest), Ruel Cowles (Lisa), and Becky Mason; nine grandchildren, David Cowles Jr. (Crystal), Jonathan Cowles (Sarah), Hester Ndoja (Gjergj), Buck Watkins (Natalie), Mary Katherine Erwin (Spence), Joe Ruel Cowles (Emily), Larmon Cowles, Fort Mason (Jennie) and Elizabeth Lindsay (Paul); and six great-grandchildren, Lee Cowles, Frances Cowles, Nate Cowles, Hunter Cowles, Walt Cowles, and Harley Erwin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Leonard Ruel Cowles; and her parents, Katherine and James Ward Stickney. Kathy also leaves her dear caregivers at Westminster Oaks.
