Kathy, as we knew her some 50 years ago, was a wonderful neighbor.

One of my earliest memories of Kathy was of her beautiful smile. Another was of my canvasing the neighborhood with my mother on behalf of the March of Dimes- a teachable moment about the importance of reaching out to the less fortunate- and Kathy's "tzedakah."

Indeed, if I ever forget the relationship between the Isbins and the Harris family all I have to do is flip to a page in my baby book. There's a photo- and I presume the Isbins had/have a copy- of Ira and I as toddlers.

I'm not sure which of our parents staged the photo, but Ira and I are poised to share a kiss.

Later on, Neil and I were classmates and by the time Sharon was born she was quite the curiosity on block to those of us "tweens" who were all so close in age- the Ketrosers, Kahns, Lazeres and the Harrris children- and not quite sure what to make a newborn, who, even as she grew, was never old enough for us to count among our playmates! (Perhaps if we'd known that Sharon was a future Grammy-winner we wouldn't have been so quick to dismiss Ira and Neil's kid sister!)

My sympathy to Herb, Ira, Sharon and their loved ones.

With deepest sympathy to the Isbin family during your time of sorrow. Psalms 46:1 says: God is for us a refuge and strength during this difficult time and May God grant you the comfort to endure.
