Katherine Johnson

Katherine Johnson, 87, of Babbitt, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007 in the Edgewood Vista Care Facility in Hermantown. She was born Jan. 6, 1920 in Flasher, N.D., the daughter of John and Alicia Kuntz. She married Raymond D. Johnson. Katherine was a homemaker, enjoyed square dancing, was the disciplinarian in her home, and was known for her great cooking skills. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt and its women's guild and altar guild, caring for the Church's paraments for many years. She was also a life member of the Babbitt VFW Auxiliary. Katherine is survived by her children, Richard (Toni) Johnson of Coon Rapids, Ronald (Toni) Johnson of Chicago, Robert (Christy) Johnson of Las Vegas, Julie (Shane) Pierce of Swannanoa, N.C., and Timothy Johnson of Cambridge; daughter-in-law. Patricia 'Patty' Johnson of Superior; grandchildren, Christopher (Crystal) Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Brent (Roxanne) Johnson, Jackie (T.J.) Pierce, Jamie Johnson, Alex Johnson, Danika Johnson, Noah Pierce, Beth (Tony) Menor, and Tom Johnson; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Edward, Kyra, Jason, Marissa, Emma, Nicole, Gwendolyn, Griffin, Trenton, Wesley, and Audrey; siblings, Elias Kuntz, Frances Kraft, Barbara Smith, and Helen Heatherington; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by, her parents; husband, Raymond in 1998; son, Raymond in 2007, great-grandson, Benjamin Menor; and siblings, Valentine Kuntz, Nicholas Kuntz, Peter Kuntz, Romanus (Ray) Kuntz, and Anna Ternes. VISITATION:6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2007 with a 7 p.m. Rosary in the Kerntz Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Ely. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. until the 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 in St. Pius X Catholic Church in Babbitt. Reverend Father James Scheuer will celebrate the Mass.
