Katherine Anderson Keating

Katherine Keating passed away peacefully, Monday afternoon, June 19, 2023, in Taylorsville, Utah, at the age of 78. She was born on November 1, 1944, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to David and Thora Schwartz. When she was four, her father passed away suddenly. Katherine, her sister Margaret, and her brother Thomas were raised by their mother.

 

When Katherine was seven, her family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Gospel of Jesus Christ provided a firm foundation upon which she would build her life.

 

Katherine attended school in Wausau, Wisconsin and Duluth, Minnesota. After graduating from Wausau Senior High School in 1963, she lived with her mother. In 1968 her mother passed away. Katherine was only 24. She moved to Madison, Wisconsin where she lived with her brother Tom, his wife Charlotte and daughter Charlaan. 

 

Later, Katherine decided to go to Los Angeles where her older sister Margaret was living.  Within months of arriving in Los Angeles, she met James Wendell Anderson of Wendover, Utah. Jim was smart, studious, and emotionally calm. He was an accountant from a family of accountants. Katherine and Jim fell in love and were married on January 31, 1970, in the Los Angeles Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  They began their life together in the Salt Lake Valley and after several years put down roots in Ogden, Utah.  

 

Jim had been diagnosed years earlier with juvenile diabetes and Katherine wanted to help. She decided to pursue a career in nursing. She completed her Registered Nursing degree at Weber State in Ogden, Utah, in 1980.

 

During these early years, Katherine and Jim adopted two children, David Ronald and Jaimee Elizabeth.  Life was good in Ogden. Then in early January 1984, tragedy struck again. Jim suffered a massive stroke and passed away on January 7. Katherine was devastated and for the remainder of her life struggled with mental health issues.

 

In the early 1990’s she met Eddie Joe Keating, an Episcopalian widower. They dated and were married on December 4, 1993. For the next 28 years, they loved and cared for each other. Ed passed away on April 28, 2021. 

 

Katherine will be remembered for her cheerfulness, her generosity, her flair for the dramatic, her baking, and her exceptional singing voice. Most of all, she will be remembered for her love of the temple and family history work along with her gratitude for the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

 

Katherine is survived by her son, David Anderson (wife Patrizia) of Las Cruces, New Mexico; daughter, Jaimee Bond (husband Michael) of West Jordan, Utah; and six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren on the Anderson side of her family. She had also grown close to Ed’s children, Jonathan, Kathryn, and especially Thomas and his wife Bianca. She stayed close to her two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. 

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Country Hills Ward, 1401 County Hills Dr., Ogden, UT 84403. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd., Ogden, UT 84403.

 

The family expresses special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for Katherine and to members of the Cobble Creek 6th Ward and the Country Hills Ward for their love and kindness.
