Katherine Marshall Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 30, 2023.
Katherine "Kay" Wyvonne Kuykendall Marshall, 77, earned her wings on June 12, 2023. Born on September 28, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas, as a princess to her very grateful parents, Sam Houston Kuykendall and Velma Jackie Kuykendall. Kay was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and special "aunt" to many.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Dale Marshall, daughters Carla Yvonne Marshall Weston, her husband Ronald "Red", Laura Lynn Newsom Marshall, her husband, Jeffrey, and Susan Marshall, grandsons Candone Saucedo, his wife Chloe, and Grant Marshall, granddaughter Kaytlin Marshall. Great-granddaughter Naomi Saucedo, and great-grandson Nathan Saucedo. She is also survived by a blended array of extended friends and family members, all of whom loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her son, William Houston Marshall, mother, father, and sister, Baby Patricia June Kuykendall.
Kay graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1964 and earned an AA degree in Legal Assistance from Tarrant County Junior College after returning to her studies in her 50's, always appearing on the deans list and graduating with honors.

The Mother of three's world was all about raising and doing for her children. She became the school cafeteria manager once they all begun school. As the children aged and needed her less, she began to manage the family business, not just the books but also on the job sites as an equal partner with her husband in the construction industry.

Kay always walked firmly in her relationship with Christ and was a long term member of the Gospel Gathering Fellowship.
Kay led a life of volunteerism. Organizing fundraisers for the Winona Little League that lead to the building of a new baseball field. She served as the secretary of the Lake Worth Boat Club. She was a published author, avid reader, singer, lover of all board games and a competitive scrabble player.

Kay loved life, people, animals, and spent a lifetime advocating and caring for others. To know Kay on any level was to know of her deep devotion to the Dallas Cowboys, the Lake Worth Bullfrogs, music and above all, her faith.

With her young family she introduced them to camping, fishing, gardening and canning vegetables. Her later years were spent playing games with and spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Our Mother would say to us from an early age, "whoever told you life was fair". It wasn't to be cruel but to show appreciation. No matter your situation, someone always has it worse.

When an emergency spinal surgery required skilled nursing care, she faced her challenges without resentment and always found joy in each day and every new relationship she acquired. Her final years she spent advocating for residents, helping in creating activities, assisting staff when able and leading an example of always living life to the fullest.

If we had to describe our Mother in one word, it would simply be "amazing".
