Katherine Phelps Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2019.
Katherine Phelps, 62, of Atlanta, GA met her demise on March 16th at Northside hospital.
Katherine Phelps was born in New Haven, Connecticut on November 4, 1956 to Elise and Luther Phelps. Katherine was the eldest child of theirs; later on would come sister Patricia as well as two brothers Larry & Frank. Although she was born in Connecticut she did not live out her life there. For a period of time she and the rest of the Phelps family resided in Greenville, Alabama. At the age of 18 Katherine decided that if she ever wanted to make a name for herself she'd have to leave Alabama behind.
Atlanta, Georgia is where her life truly began. In 1989, she created the highly acclaimed "Atlanta Woman Magazine" which featured the many powerful females residing in the area like her. Her publishing priority would be put aside for an unexpected new chapter: the birth of a 1 pound baby girl.
On September 19, 1997 Katherine's only child, Marise, was born. For this was no simplistic birth there were complications due to Marise's brief time in the womb, one of which she was born with cerebral palsy. For the next year Katherine would visit her daughter in the hospital till the glorious day came she'd finally get to take her home. The next 21 years would be a blessing for Katherine; the bond between Marise and her was unlike any other. Throughout life along with raising her daughter Katherine's success within her career began to flourish.
In 2005, she went on to create "Beautiful Magazine" a nationally-distributed publication primarily focused on beauty products and self enhancement related services. Katherine turned Beautiful Magazine into Beautiful Media, her very own publishing company for a wide array of books and magazines. Being a strong proponent for equality and diversity she decided to turn her mindset into a publication; Viva Internationale magazine heralds women's success and accomplishments uniting women with a global forum.
Katherine's depth of knowledge combined with her radiant personality has impacted the lives of so many. She lives on in the memory of all who cherish her. Katherine is survived by her beloved daughter Marise, husband Kenny Scott, Sister Patricia Phelps, Brothers Larry and Frank Phelps, her numerous nieces and nephews, and all the people she greatly impacted with her presence.

Katherine was a gal that shined her own bright light. She was passionate, intelligent and loving. She was full of the joy her family brought to her. She loved with her whole heart. She will be missed greatly. Prayers.

Katherine Phelps was full of joy and brought light and laughter when she entered any room. She loved her family, especially sweet Marise! She will forever be missed by all who knew her. My heart goes out to my friend Patricia, her very special, incredibly talented sister, and her entire family. Live and hugs from Del and me.

I didn't know her, but Patricia is my best friend and she is wonderful, so I have to feel that her sister was the same
