Katherine Polite Obituary
Born in Aspinwall, Pa., on Nov. 9, 1919, she graduated from Aspinwall High School in June of 1938, and went on to graduate from Pennsylvania State University. Kate joined the Coast Guard in 1943, where she achieved the rank of lieutenant prior to her discharge in February 1946.
Kate's love affair with Cape Cod began with summer vacations with family and friends. She accomplished a lifelong dream when moving permanently to Orleans in the fall of 1988.
For all the people and lives she touched, Kate's time here went by too quickly but the times she had were truly wonderful. She will be dearly missed by all.
A private service will be held by her immediate family to be followed by a memorial celebration of her life on the event of the summer solstice, June 21, 2009.
Kate is survived by three sons from her prior marriage to L. John Polite Jr., John of Newberry, Vt., Daniel of Hillsborough, Calif., and David of Carlton, Ore.
Throughout her days on Cape Cod, Kate remained a devoted supporter of the Audubon Society and displayed her love of nature by gifting land to the Orleans Conservation Trust. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in her name be made to Massachusetts Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary, P.O. Box 236, South Wellfleet, MA 02663.

I only met Kate on a couple of occasions but was impressed by her "joy of life" and friendliness to a stranger. The world has lost a good person.
