Kathleen Barabas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 26, 2025.
It is with great sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Kathleen Evelyn Barabas on August 2, 2025,at the age of 78 years old.

Kathleen(Kathy) was born on October 12,1946, in Springfield, Massachusetts to Evelyn Eva Braica & Erwin Seneca Smith. She had fond memories of her childhood in Saugus, Massachusetts, followed by moving to South Florida with her family and attending Fort Lauderdale High.

From waitressing, to insurance, to office manager roles, Kathy had a full career filled with helping customers, understanding policies and documents, and typing 80 words per minute. She eventually settled in Oakland Park, Florida where she found the love of her life and has resided for nearly half a century.

She will be remembered for her quick wit, love of movies and interest in food and cooking. She had a great sense of humor, a kind heart with a touch of stubbornness, and loved her pet dogs as if they were babies. While she often joked about not being a 'people person,' she found great joy in one-on-one conversations and learning people's stories.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Michael 'Al' Barabas and her 4 children, Robert 'Terry' (and Jeannette) Thies, Marie Thies, Ashley (and Laura) Barabas, and Allan Barabas. In addition, Kathy was the beloved 'Nana' to 7 grandchildren: Megan, Mackenzie, Luca, Lucius, Matthew, Arlo and Christian.

A celebration of life will be held with close family members in the near future.

May she rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
