Kathleen Chasteen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 20, 2023.
Kathleen "Kathy" Louise Chasteen, 78, of Naperville, Illinois passed away on October 22nd, 2023 at her daughter's home in Waterford, Michigan.

Kathy was born on July 3, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Cornelius and Marion Ryan. She was the youngest of three children. Along with her parents, Kathy's sister Joanne is preceded in death. She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Jack Chasteen; her brother Kerran Ryan; sons Ryan O'Connor and Daniel (Laura) O'Connor, and daughter Tara (Nathan) Sitarski; grandson Roscoe Smith O'Connor and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathy was an elementary school teacher for the first half of her life while also taking some time off to raise her children. Kathy and her family moved to Naperville, Illinois where she quickly finished her Masters degree and started working in social work, her true passion. She would continue to work in this field until her retirement in 2014.

When Kathy wasn't working, she was often found reading a book or watching a movie. She had a deep appreciation for both. She also loved going to plays, gardens, and traveling the states. Kathy was known for her witty sense of humor, her great sense of recall, and had a million cliches. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have know her.

There will be no funeral, but a celebration of her life in the Spring of 2024.

Kathy and I were best friends from kindergarten through college. I was her Maid of Honor and she was mine. She always made me smile. We shared many adventures and she had many friends. She had a puckish sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was kind and good but not too good to venture into tricky territory just to keep thing interesting.
