Dear Gandy family, although my relationship with Kathleen was brief, I cannot tell you how very inspiring she was to me. Her presence at the Relay for Life Survivor breakfast gave everyone the courage and fortitude to work very hard. I found out that Kathleen was diagnosed with cancer just days after the 2012 Relay for Life event. I know that Kathleen's life was a truly gifted one and she touched so many people in such positive ways. May her soul rest in peace and her family be comforted knowing that one day you all will be united with this wonderful woman in the heavenly kingdom. God Bess you all.

Heaven is the winner and we have to wait a while to be with Kathleen. God knows what is best, but in this case I believe God selected the best person to be in His Heavenly Kingdom. I want Leroy, Chloe, and Scott know they are in my prayers. I know that God will heal and guide your path in life.

The picture of Kathleen is as I remember her. Wonderful spirit, intelligent and inspiring. Was blessed to have her as a next door neighbor growing up and shared the same birthday. Her family is often in my thoughts as I remember the wonder of growing up on Beatrice Way. My thoughts and prayers to her family and close friends.

Dear Leroy,
I am sorry to learn, belatedly, of the sad news of Kathleen's passing. Though I only knew her, briefly, I note her involvement with, among other interests, scouting. By all accounts Kathleen epitomized scouting's outdoor code which essentially tell us to leave this world better than we found it. That is certainly her legacy. My thought and prayers are with you and Kathleen's family.

Kathleen was such a blessing to me in the time that I knew her. Her warmth and friendship were such an encouragement, and I pray that those who knew her will follow her example. Kathleen was always full of love, and she always talked about her children and her family. I will miss Kathleen deeply.

"Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of one of his saints." Kathleen exuded Christ and His Love and always gave Him the glory for her exuberance, love, and kindness. We will all miss her, but we will see her again if we believe in the Christ she loved.

Kathleen and I were best friends growing up together on Beatrice Way. Went to school together from Longfellow Elementary to Centennial High. I probably made her late to school on a regular basis which probably bothered her a great deal but she never showed it. She was the first woman to whom I professed love. We were probably 8 years old. It is the one time I can remember seeing her shocked.
The last time I was in Maryland, I tried to surprise her at Catonsville CC, unfortunately she was at a conference. Never occurred to me that such a vibrant light could be taken from us so soon. Thought I had lots of time to remake that connection.
Her last e-mail to me was speaking glowingly of the latest accomplishments and remarkable attributes of Chloe and Scott. Kathleen has been a blessing for me. She still inspires me.
My deepest sympathies to Chloe and Scott. I only met the two of you a couple times when you were both quite young but I was very impressed. You have a lot of your mother in you, she was quite right to be so proud of you.

This is such a loss! I met Kathleen when we served on the Wilde Lake High PTA several years ago. We also were officers/board members of the Thurgood Marshall Democratic Club of Howard County. And she was a devoted Girl Scout leader. Kathleen was smart, sincere, persistent, and upbeat -- a wonderful person who was very good to work with. I am really saddened by her death.

I only met Dr. Gandy twice; she shared an office with the coordinator of the program of which I teach. What a lovely woman; I credit her with being the first person who instilled in me the idea that yes, I could work on my PhD and work full time, and I didn't have to move away. I am proud to say I am working, working on my PhD, and am still here in Maryland - I thank her so much for that advice. The CCBC community will miss her.

We were great friend's with Kathleen when she attended Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. We all attended Christ Temple Church of God in Christ and we would pick her up for services many Sundays. Kathleen and I (Kim Staggers) shared the same birthday. I regret my husband and I were not able to get in touch with her before her passing. We enjoyed her spirit and experienced a lot of laughter in our friendship. To Chloe and D. Scott, your mother was a great inspiration, to us, of what you can achieve if you apply yourself and be patient in your endeavors. Though we regret not keeping in touch, we truly thank God for the time and season God allowed her to be in our lives. God's richest blessings on your family. Our prayers are with you all.

Had the honor of coming to know Gerri and Kathleen, two lovely women, at CPC Women's Bible Study.. and I have followed Kathleen's powerful and encouraging journal entries as she lived out her valiant faith and life... while pressing on as she "endured and ran the race before her" finding her way HOME! My deepest felt sympathies to her dear loved ones. Though she is only temporarily separated from us.. for them.. the angst makes this time seem like an eternity on this side. May God give each of you a deep, gentle peace and an assurance that we WILL be reunited again in GLORY! xo

We are so grateful to have met Kathleen at the gym at her daughter Chloe's zumba classes. We really appreciate the motivational chats we had together before class started. We shared our love of family, education, diversity, sports such as basketball, after work svc to others/scouting etc. We both had two kids we were very proud of and enjoyed talking about them. Her daughter Chloe received the girl scout gold award and later my daughter did as well with alot of encouragement. We were delighted to see Kathleen in Annapolis MD still volunteering in scouting during my daughter's gold award ceremony a few years later! My younger daughter Corissa who has special needs started zumba in Chloe's kids zumba class and then her adult classes. Kathleen would always put a smile on our faces before class telling Corissa how beautiful she was and asking how we were doing. She would often spend a long time encouraging Corissa to talk about her school day before zumba started. We enjoyed very much her motivational chats before zumba which we all loved so much dancing together in her daughter's classes! We remember how proud Kathleen was when she announced her daughter teaching her first zumba class at the gym. These classes continued to grow and you could see her daughter Chloe carried on the spirit of Kathleen! Kathleen was a very motivational and inspirational women who touched so many wherever she went. I can relate to losing a parent at this same age and it is very difficult but so grateful to have had all that love and inspiration that continues on forever and makes you stronger! Kathleen was very proud to have been able to raise such wonderful children to carry on her spirit. We are thankful to Kathleen for inspiring us all to continue to make this world a better place and honored to have met her and be inspired by her!

She fought the battle and finished the race. On December 31, 2013, Kathy stood in front of her LORD AND SAVIOUR and the LORD'S words to her were 'WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT, COME IN AND ENJOY THE GLORY OF THE LORD".. We should all be that blessed.
I am glad she touched my life and I am a better person for it. Please know my heart cries for Kathy also.

To make the world a better place for someone is one of God's greatest gifts and challenges. Kathleen spent her life, it seems, with the soul purpose of shedding God's light into every place, every activity, and every person she encountered. She left everyone, everyplace, every situation she touched better...from Scouts, to students, to mission trips, to high school dances, to community work, to family and friends. She has been a blessing in our lives.
She fought so valiantly, and is now at peace!
Our sincere sympathy and prayers are with you Gerry, Lisa, Kim, Leroy, Chloe, and Scott.
God's Peace be with you.

The world lost one of its brightest lights on New Year's Eve. Kathleen loved completely and unselfishly. She always stopped to take the time to talk to you if you needed it. She was smart and funny. She had the BEST ideas and the energy and drive to put those ideas into action. She had the ability to reframe events in a way that truly allowed you to view it from a different perspective. Her parenting advice will stay with me always, encouraging me to let go and let my kids follow their own path. She looked for the good in all people, and made sure to celebrate it. She laughed and cried with you, both deep from her soul. Her faith was the strongest I have ever witnessed, and she held you up if yours was wavering.
I was lucky to grow up with 4 sisters. I never thought I needed another one. Boy, did Kath show me I was wrong. She called me her sister, and she meant it. Someone said that “work was work, but family is family and more important”. Not if you knew Kath. Those lines blurred, because when she chose you for her family that was it. I will always be so grateful that I met a co-worker and found a sister.
Even though my heart is breaking, I am one of the lucky ones to have had her in my life. I will strive for the rest of my days to be more like her, and know she is with me, walking beside me on my path.
Special loving hugs to her amazing, beloved husband Leroy, her sweet children Chloe and Scott, and her mom Gerry, whose strength is boundless.

When I first met Kathleen, it was as if I'd known her for years!! I simply walked past her in the AF building hall, asked a simple question, and that led to a nearly two hour conversation. We talked about everything from teaching to degrees to girl scouts and other similar interests. Her enthusiasm and zest for life was infectious! I admired her spirit and was completely inspired by her.
She was unique and positively touched the lives of students, teachers, and, I'm sure, anyone who made her acquaintance.
Kathleen, rest in peace. To her family, my prayers are with you.
