GEOGHEGAN KATHLEEN (McGRATH)
Kathleen Geoghegan, a La Canada Flintridge Resident since 1969, passed away on January 26, 2009 after a long and valiant struggle with Multiple Myeloma and its multitude of side effects. Kathleen was born January 31st, 1946 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Harriet and Lawrence McGrath. She was the fifth child in the family including brothers and sisters Joan, James, Joseph, Harriet, and Virginia. Kathleen was a Flight Attendant for American Airlines and was originally based in New York. She transferred to Los Angeles after her marriage to James Geoghegan in 1968 and continued employment for forty years until a medical retirement in 2007. During her career as a Flight Attendant Kathleen most loved the friendships with fellow Flight Attendants that continue to this day. Her favorite trips were always those that included days off in New York City, Washington D.C. and Boston Massachusetts. Even after retirement she continued the long term friendships she formed with her fellow Flight Attendants. Her three most memorable and exciting events in the last few years were the marriage of her son James to Darcy Algoe in Des Moines Iowa. That was followed by the birth of her first granddaughter Samantha Kae Geoghegan to James and Darcy. Then, shortly before entering the hospital, she spent a Sunday afternoon watching her daughter Kelly perform in a dressage show presented by GDS Equestrian Enterprises. Her joy was compounded when Kelly won two ribbons for her performance during the competition. Kathleen enjoyed her daily exercise routine at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center Therapy Pool, especially designed, staffed, and equipped for people with disabilities. She loved going there and exercising and socializing with her wonderful group of friends. Kathleen was fortunate to have a tremendous group of friends. These friends have always been with her through the best and worst of times for the last forty years. She was truly grateful for all of her friendships. She most enjoyed catching up on the latest news with her friends through phone calls, shopping trips, afternoon tea, lunches and dinners. Kathleen is survived by James, her husband of forty one years, their son James Kevin and daughter Kelly Kathleen. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Darcy and grandchild Samantha, her brother Joseph McGrath and sisters Harriet Embersits, Virginia Lance, nephews Daniel Mayer, Larry Mayer and Thomas Mayer, Jeffery Embersits, and Steven Embersits, niece Leslie Embersits and mother-in-law Mary Geoghegan. Viewing will be 2:00-4:00 PM Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the CALLANAN MORTUARY CHAPEL,1301 N. Western Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027. ((323-462-2266). Thank you to all for your thoughts. We as a family miss Kathleen very much but her spirit is very much alive in all of us. She would have been especially thrilled that the Steeler's won the Superbowl. The attached picture is from the Baptism of her first Grandchild Samantha in April 2008.

I was saddened to read of Kathy's passing in the Pittsburgh paper. She was one of a great family of McGraths that made growing up in the old neighborhood such a wonderful experience.
