Kathleen (Kathi) Dumond Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 27 to Mar. 2, 2023.
Kathi Dumond (nee Huberty) age 80, passed away on February 27, 2023 after a brief battle with breast cancer. Kathi was born on May 25, 1942 in St. Paul, Minnesota to Frank and Marie (nee Thill) Huberty. One of ten children, Kathi grew up in St. Paul's Frogtown neighborhood and then its East Side, and attended Good Counsel High School in Mankato, MN. Kathi married Ralph Dumond in 1966 after meeting on a blind date in 1965 at the New York World's Fair. She was a devoted homemaker and loving mother to her four children, Marie Johnson (Brian), Kathryn Trubia (John), Deidre Franzen (Brian), and William (Colleen). After spending close to 25 years in New York, she returned to Minnesota in 1991with Ralph after his retirement from the NYPD. Kathi was an accomplished artist, specializing in painting in her later years. She loved sharing her passion for arts with her grandchildren, and passed many of her talents on to them. Entertaining family was one of her favorite ways to spend time. She is preceded in death by her parents, her mother- and father-in-law Clement and Neoma Dumond, her brothers Frank, Raymond, and William, and her sisters Jacqueline Soebbing and MaryClare Huberty. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren Ashley Muhl (Kurt), John Trubia, Jr. (Megan), Michael Trubia (Sarah), Ryan Trubia, Katie Dumond, Abbey Dumond and Maggie Dumond, and her great granddaughter, Elaina Trubia. She is also survived by her brothers Donald (Midge), Leonard (Barbara), and Joseph, and her sister Geraldine Lambach, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, all who will miss her dearly. Kathi's Catholic faith was very strong and important to her, and she spent the latter part of her life volunteering her time to charities and helping others through her church, especially the Appalachian Christmas and the Uganda missions. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at 10:00 a.m., on Friday March 3rd at St. Peter's Catholic Church at 1405 Sibley Memorial Highway in Mendota Heights. Refreshments to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

Aunt Dede & Uncle Ralph opened their Staten Island home to me at 17 for my 1st "alone" trip.
Both are such gracious hosts. That visit began a love of their family as well as a city that has endured a lifetime. Over the years they have continued to show this amazing hospitality.
Bob and I will always remember the St. Patrick celebration dinners with Ralph´s special recipe for corned beef and cabbage and Kathleen's warm welcoming. We fondly remember many a time sitting around their dining room table laughing and connecting.
Grateful for you Kathi and Ralph.

Kathi, I'll always remember you for your graciousness and for the love you always showed for your family. Your excellent cooking, fun sense of humor, and lovely artwork made you a joy to be around. I'm glad I got to know you. You made our neighborhood a friendlier place to live.
