Kathleen Patterson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 9, 2022.
On Sunday, September 25th, 2022, Kathleen Lynn Patterson, n?e Gibbon, beloved wife and mother of two passed away at age sixty-two. The youngest of three sisters, Kathleen grew up in Walnut Creek, California. She graduated from Oregon State University and became a successful Certified Public Accountant.

Kathleen met her future husband Steve, the summer before her senior year in college. After dating for three years, Kathleen and Steve married in 1985. Kathleen would wryly say, of the forty years they were together, most were fabulous, but all were an adventure! Together they lived in Northern and Southern California, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Cincinnati and over twenty years in Winnetka, Illinois where they raised their two children, Will and Maggie. About five years ago they relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona.

Little in life was more important than her two beautiful children Will and Maggie. She was so tremendously proud of the people they had grew to become. Spending time with her extended family was Kathleen's happy place.

For a self-described introvert, Kathleen sure loved a party! Often saying, "we're not staying long", Kathleen was usually the last to leave. She and Steve loved throwing themed parties like Mad Men, the Rat Pack and an annual Lunar New Year gathering where they often decorated the house and dressed in character. Kathleen and Steve shared a passion for craft cocktails, (she loved a French 75) and enjoyed the search for elusive bottles of great tasting, low priced champagne. Kathleen was an avid hiker and so loved the desert. She always said the little lizards that darted in front of her were omens of good luck, and she assigned Arizona's saguaros personality traits based on the shape of their arms. She dearly loved spring when families of tiny baby quail would parade outside her office window. She and Steve loved space and astronomy and would take great satisfaction in knowing that in the end she would once again become stardust.

A Remembrance of Life will be held at the Winnetka Community House at 3PM on Saturday, November 12th. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arizona Foothill's 911 group would be greatly appreciated. Sweet and kind Kathleen is survived by legions of friends who knew and dearly loved her as well as her husband Steve, son Will, daughter Maggie, daughter in law Rebekah and sisters Debbie and Laurie, and her mother June.

This photo from 1982 shows the four of us camping in Baja, Mexico on the Pacific coast. Kathleen was a dear fun loving, life-long friend and it was always a treat to be in her pleasant and humorous company. We played euchre together and we were so glad when her and Steve relocated to Scottsdale only 25 minutes from our winter home. I will miss her greatly and stay in close touch with my Fiji pledge brother Steve. I will always treasure my mountain climbing trip with their son, Will, and cherish my trips with Steve to Maui and Kona in the 1990´s. Johnny Brill/Purdue University
