Kathleen “Peggy” Clark Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2025.
Kathleen Margaret Mary Clark, lovingly known as Peggy, passed away on August 8, 2025, in Canby, Oregon, with family by her side. She was 86 years old.

Peggy was born on July 31, 1939, in Tacoma, Washington, the youngest of four daughters of Dr. John P. Mallany and Ruth Mallany. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas, a private school for girls, while her future husband, Gary Dean Clark, attended Bellarmine, a nearby boys' school. Introduced by Gary's sister, their connection was immediate, and they were married in 1958-a love story that would span 63 years. Sadly, Gary passed away on Thanksgiving Day 2021, after suffering from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Together, Peggy and Gary built a life filled with love, raising four children-Dennis, David, Suzanne, and Darrin. Their early years were spent on a farm in Beaverton, Oregon, where life was full of adventure with four children just a year apart in age, and a household bustling with pets, ball games, beach outings, camping trips, and joyful family gatherings.

Reflecting on their life together, Peggy once said: "We have been tried and tested, we emerged with humility and appreciation of second chances."

In addition to managing her home, Peggy pursued a variety of careers with skill and dedication. She worked as an X-ray technician, in the engineering department at PGE as chief of document control, and later in medical records management and transcription.

Throughout her life, Peggy engaged in many volunteer activities. She and Gary became very involved in the communities where they lived-Burlingame, West Moreland, and Garden Home. They eventually settled in McMinnville for 21 years and most recently Newberg.

Peggy was young at heart and she delighted in sewing, spending time in the garden, and attending her grandchildren's activities. Never afraid to try something new, she learned to play the ukulele and joined in line dancing.

She also loved to cook and bake for her family. Her pies, with their golden homemade crusts, were a family favorite. And she adored a mug of rich black coffee-next time you enjoy a cup, imagine yourself sharing it with her.

Peggy is survived by her children; Dennis (Lisa), David (Maryellen), Suzanne (Monty), and Darrin (Julianna); her grandchildren Charlie, Peter, Molly, Shannon, Daniel, Ryan, Jody, Connor, and Sean; and her 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sisters Patricia Gallwas, Sheila Gallagher, and Nora Warren, and her beloved husband, Gary Dean Clark. Peggy will be laid to rest beside Gary at St. James Cemetery in McMinnville, Oregon.

Her genuine laugh and feisty spirit will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

I remember the first Meadows family picnic and meeting Gary & Peggy. I spent such great time with them visiting and laughing. They were so special and I´m so happy that I got to know them. Suzanne and family my heart and prayers are with you. I understand this loss personally as I´ve lost my husband, mom and dad in 1.5 years. We know they have all gone to heaven and are celebrating being together again. My deepest condolences Suzanne.

What a beautiful tribute to a life well lived. It was a joy to meet and go camping with Peggy a few years ago. Hoping the good memories bring you some peace and comfort during this time of grieving.
Much love, Trish & Laura
