Prayers and condolences are extended to the family of Ms. Barrett; namely her sisters, Brenda and Cynthia. Our families share a common bond and that is the bond of friendship and education. Ms. Barrett was a firm believer in education and she pushed several students to fullfill their goals. She will be deeply missed.

I felt honored to have met such a historic activist as Ms. Barrett. I was proud to work with her on the Southside Project so many years ago. She had a memory and a vision which made her an incredible resource. She was so kind to us while explaining how little we really knew. Having known her good friend Watt Washington, I got a little background on young Kathryn which only reinforced my complete adoration and respect. I hope the message she lived continues to live.

Ms. Kathryn L. Barrett was a remarkable woman with a heart of gold. She was instrumental in make sure the community was surrounded by positive role models and education was available for all, beginning with the children. I am praying for her family and for the community for we have loss a strong advocate. May we carry on the torch that she carried and finish the work that meant, the world to her. God Bless

This candle represents the light Kathryn was to the Gadsden community and especially to the many children she served. She was a true servant. RIP my friend
