Kathryn Bax Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 14, 2025.
Kathryn Ann Bax (Kathy), a brilliant, strong, kind, and loving person, left us Friday February 7, 2025. Born November 16, 1952, in Springfield Illinois. She lived her life by exploring, learning, and deeply loving her family and friends.

Kathy and her husband Danny, her best friend for life, fell madly in love with each other at first sight in high school on New Years Eve 1969. They married February 12, 1971, and remained madly in love and best friends. Adoring and loyal to each other and their two daughters, they shared an incredibly rare, close, tender and deeply loving marriage, the likes of which few people have ever experienced for over 55 years. Her brilliance, deep love, and her warmth to everyone was ever visible to everyone who met her. She embraced life, her ancestral cultural heritage and tradition. She traveled the world with Danny and were as close as two people in love can be. She was most proud of her two daughters, who each possess the same true love and her finest qualities. She loved gardening, volunteered at gardens, and created beautiful gardens in her back yard. She was a shining example to all who got to know her.

Kathy's mission was always to serve. She always gave and never took. She exemplified kindness. Her passion for family and curiosity of learning and the world led her to night college after marriage at Washington University in St. Louis learning computers. She later received an MBA from the University of Phoenix, and for fun achieved a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Western Connecticut State University. She always pursued education and continued learning. She had a 17-year high-power executive career at IBM. She was the first women serving in any of her executive roles, breaking boundaries and forging a path for women in careers. She was a Series 7 investment advisor, started her own Family Office financial services business, and later founded and operated multiple decades long technology businesses with her husband. Kathy traveled the world, embraced and celebrated new customs and traditions. She loved the outdoors, hiked the Appalachian Trail and became a Nevada Site Steward volunteer to enjoy and help protect historic sites. Her passion, enjoyment and pride to be a Nevada Site Steward, recruiting and assisting other site stewards, and her desire to assist each park across the US burned in her heart every day, and quoted saying those were the best years of her life. Her last words were "I am happy".

Kathy Bax is the daughter of Gwen and Leo Ferrette. She is survived by her loving husband Daniel James Bax, and two daughters Brandy June Bax married to Jason Potter, and Brei Jacqueline Bax married to Mathew Makoid and step grandkids Cameron and Avery Makoid; sister to Denise Smith, married to Ron Smith, and many adoring friends.

A graveside ceremony will be held at Memorial Gardens, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road, Las Vegas, NV 89130, Saturday February 22nd, at 2PM, followed by a celebration of Kathy's life in Kathy's backyard Garden at 6402 Inwood Park Ct. from 3pm to 7pm. Condolences and live plants and flowers to be planted in Kathy's Garden can be sent to the same address. In lieu of flowers, Kathy dearly loved Site Stewarding and it would most honor her if your donations were sent to Nevadans for Cultural Preservation c/o Kathy's "Rockstar" Fund to help recruit new Site Stewards and protect Nevada's cultural sites https://www.nvfcp.org/kathys_rockstar_fund You may leave a voice mail message for her family at 702-718-1406. Some friendz in life are game changers. Met Kathy in 2002 and we bonded. We explored many levels of life, from space aliens, Out of Body experiences with Monroe Institute, and a multitude of friendz. Kathy was an incredible connector and innovator - Our adventures were all over the board, including business ventures. Kathy was a soul sister, even though we had some ebbs and flows, the love never stopped. If I could say anything to Kathy right now, I would say, You are an amazing big spirit, You loved, you cared, you inovatited and you were fearless...You made IMPACT! You also knew life and death are just a thin vail of realization. Kathy will be changing some games on the next level of her evolution I;m sure. Love You always - Peace be with your journey. See You on the other side... Always, Darlene Mea

To celebrate the life of a remarkable soul, my dear friend Kathy. It's hard to encapsulate the magnitude of her impact in mere words, but it is our attempt to pay tribute to someone who has touched so many lives with her presence.

Kathy was more than just a friend; she was a guiding star, a beacon of light that shone brightly in all our lives. Her sweetness and kindness were like a warm embrace, comforting anyone who crossed her path. With a charisma that drew people in, and a confidence that inspired us all, Kathy was a unique blend of intelligence and grace. She carried herself with an angelic beauty that was not just skin deep, but radiated from her very soul.

To say she was hardworking would be an understatement. Kathy was a force of nature, someone who went beyond leaps and bounds to achieve her goals. Her determination was matched only by her joyfulness and love for life. She was full of life, bringing a contagious energy and an amazing spirit to every room she entered.

Kathy´s selflessness was one of her most defining qualities. She performed countless acts of kindness, often putting others before herself. She was lovely inside and out, a true testament to the saying that beauty is as much about one's actions as it is about one's appearance. Her selfless acts changed my life, making me a better version of myself, and I am sure many of you feel the same way.

I remember all the times we celebrated together-the cocktails and laughter that filled the air. Kathy's comforting words of advice during my hardest and craziest times were like a lifeline. There was one special moment when we gave her a money tree plant as a gift. Kathy was speechless, but her expressive eyes left an everlasting smile on both our faces. These moments, and so many more, are the cherished memories we will hold on to.

There's a song that I think about since she's been gone, and it's "I'm Not Okay" by Jelly Roll. It resonates deeply, capturing the essence of the emptiness felt in her absence.

As we remember Kathy, let us carry forward the lessons she taught us. Let us strive to be sweet, kind, charismatic, confident, and hardworking. Let us live life with the same joy and love that she did. Kathy's memory will forever be etched in our hearts, a testament to a life well-lived and a person deeply loved.

Rest in peace, dear Kathy. Your spirit lives on in each of us, and we are forever grateful for the time we had with you.

I first met Kathy Bax at the Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. It was a day that would forever change my life. We were both there, serving a vision much greater than ourselves. From that moment, it was clear that she had a profound connection with nature and an unwavering commitment to preserving its beauty.
Kathy Bax was more than just a colleague; [he/she/they] were a guiding light for all of us. Beyond [his/her/their] professional achievements, Kathy Bax was a person who loved life in all its forms. She had an infectious enthusiasm that inspired everyone around her. Her laughter and warmth made even the toughest days bearable.
Today, we remember Kathy Bax not with tears, but with gratitude. We are grateful for the moments we shared, the lessons we learned, and the love we received. While she may no longer be with us physically, her spirit will forever reside in the landscapes she loved, in the hearts of those she touched, and in the legacy she left behind.
Kathy Bax you will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Your life was a testament to the power of passion, the importance of vision, and the beauty of human connection. May you rest in peace, knowing that your legacy will continue to inspire and guide us all.

Kathy and I met in the early 2000's as we served on a Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Committee to recruit teachers for this rapidly growing city. We discovered we had grown up just miles from one another in the St. Louis area, and had serendipitously hosted our wedding receptions at Grant's Cabin Restaurant just months apart in 1971. What an incredible bond that created for us in this city of transplants. Over the years, Kathy became not only one of my very dearest friends; but my mentor, my touchstone for common sense, my go-to for business decisions and a kindred spirit in the exploration of the esoteric mysteries of life. Kathy was the embodiment of all that we each strive to be as a human being. Her kindness, expansive knowledge, charity and friendship will be missed by so many. I share deeply in the sorrow we are all experiencing by her passing.

To KB. You had a true sense of adventure and you loved sharing that with those around you. A true friend to me and someone who was game for trying something new or different.

I´ll remember fondly your visit to us in Alaska and the good times we had at the cabin. You relished walking out several miles from the Alaska backcountry in winter for the pure excitement and challenge.

We should all carry some of that adventure with us.
