Kathryn Gruber Borgmann, age 84, of Waite Park, formerly of Sauk Centre, died Saturday, May 14, 2005 at Sterling Park Health Care Center in Waite Park. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Ron Weyrens and Rev. James Statz will officiate with interment following in St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Vigil prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Sauk Centre. Kathryn Borgmann was born April 26, 1921 in Padua, Minnesota to Michael and Anna (Rousslange) Essler. On October 17, 1939 she married Leonard Gruber in Padua. The couple owned and operated "Len and Kay's" (Gruber's Bar) in Padua. Leonard died on April 19, 1972. Kathryn later worked at the Red Carpet in Sauk Centre. On February 7, 1975 she married Ferdinand Borgmann in Sauk Centre. Ferd died on December 23, 1987. Kathryn later moved to Waite Park, where she was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Survivors include six children, Janice Trustheim of Blaine, Gerald Gruber of Minneapolis, Diane (Herman) Bartz and Jill (Ken) Bauer, all of Waite Park, Jeanne Love of Chandler, Arizona and John Gruber of St. Cloud; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sisters and brother, Veronica "Fronie" Ripka, Rose "Buddy" Walker and Anna Mae Haskamp, all of Sauk Centre, Felix Essler of Kenmare, North Dakota and Yvonne Ahles of St. Cloud; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Essler of Brooten and Myrna Essler of New Hope; seven step-children, Harold (Linda) Borgmann and Dan (Mary) Borgmann, all of Sauk Centre, Diane (Jim) LaFortune of Ham Lake, Rosemary Michels of Bloomington, Dean (Cindy) Borgmann of St. Cloud, Jan (George) Hooper of Baxter and Mary (Scott) Spranger of Alexandria; 15 step-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leonard Gruber and Ferd Borgmann; two grandchildren, Michael Quarve and Rocci Love; brothers and sisters, Aloys, Henry "Hienie" and Donald Essler and Marie Welters; step-son, William "Bill" Borgmann. Serving as casket bearers will be Gerald "Butch" Gruber, John Quarve, Diane Bartz, Herman Bartz, Jill Bauer and Ken Bauer. Cross bearers will be John Gruber, Kelly Walz and Mary Lindman. Gift bearers will be Kari Hollencamp, Mike Love, Pam and Pat Quarve, Julie Rennaker, Harold and Dean Borgmann and Diane Lafortune. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to WACOSA and Catholic Charities.
