Kathryn Drew Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 6, 2023.
Kathryn Cecilia Drew (née Fitzpatrick) passed away peacefully and surrounded by family in the early morning of December 2, 2023. She was 82 years old.

Kathy (or Kate, as she was known to her loving husband) was born on August 26, 1941 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Hugh and Kathryn (née Sullivan) Fitzpatrick. She was the third of four children. In 1959 she graduated from Notre Dame Catholic Girls High School and went on to be one of the first women ever accepted into the engineering program at Villanova University.

But her true passion was always her family. In 1960 she married Donald J. Drew and together they raised six children: Elizabeth Drew, D. Drew, Kathleen (Michael) Donnelly, Patricia (Robert) Franklin, Christopher (Rochelle) Drew, and Michael Drew.

In addition to her children, Kathy had thirteen grandchildren that she loved dearly: Angelina Law, Monica (Justin) Oscapinski, Danielle (Jon) Hopkins, Erin (Andrew) Moore, Christopher Drew, Jacob (Cady) Franklin, Ian (Rebecca) Drew, Devon Franklin (Tim Stanton), Amara Drew, Hannah Franklin, Mary Donnelly, Rowen Donnelly, and Meghan Donnelly, and eight young great-grandchildren: Octavian, Henry, Ashton, Ellie, Georgia, Sofia, Leo, and Olivia. She was also excitedly awaiting the arrival of three more great-grandchildren next spring.

Kathy worked for many years alongside her husband, and in her free time was a skilled seamstress and crafter. She handmade many prom, wedding, and first communion dresses for her daughters and granddaughters and over the years almost all of her children and grandchildren were gifted a special teddy bear that she'd made just for them. She loved to golf and travel, and to play bridge with a group of friends that she cared for very much. Kathy was an active and enthusiastic member of St. Joseph's Parish in Aston, PA. She was almost always found with a crossword puzzle or a book in her hand and a dog by her side. In her later years she happily volunteered with a dog rescue organization and in addition to her German Shepherd Toddy, her home was often filled with foster dogs waiting for their forever home. She had plenty of love and care to go around!

Her family and friends will always remember her as warm, passionate, witty and very funny.

Kathy was predeceased by her parents and her brother Paul Fitzpatrick. In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Kathy is also survived by two siblings: Tom (Marie) Fitzpatrick, Jane Dumigan, and a sister-in-law Judy Fitzpatrick, as well as many, many nieces and nephews.

A visitation and funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Aston, PA on Monday December 18th. Visitation will begin at 9:30 followed by mass at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kathy's honor to Parkinson's research, or to any US Military service organization.

I had the opportunity to meet Grammy Drew in 2002 when I became the au pair for the Donnelly family. Grammy Drew always made me feel part of her family. She made me the prettiest set of towels and pretty baby blankets for my daughters. We will always cherish these memories. My deepest condolences to the family.

The red underwear story. I just met Don & George and we played golf. On third whole I badly ripped my pants and exposed bright red underwear. They teased me for the next 3 hours. So for Christmas I sent Don a package to his office of red underwear with no explanation. Kathy opened the package rather than Don and wanted to know why he was receiving red underwear from someone. We all had a great laugh about that one and led to a great friendship for 35+ more years.
