Kathryn McCormick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 29, 2012.
McCormick, Kathryn D.
Passed away Friday morning, February 24, 2012 after a long battle with heart and lung disease. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James P. McCormick. She is survived by her sons, James P. Jr. (Marsha), Francis X., and Robert E. (Jacqueline); and daughters Kathryn E. McCormick and Margaret A. Henry (Steven). She had five grandchildren, Joshua P. Davis, James P. McCormick III, W. Taylor McCormick, Sean A. McCormick and Shelby A. McCormick. Kate was born April 27, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She married the love of her life, Jim, in 1951 and their family grew. They lived in Milwaukee, then relocated north of San Francisco and then finally to Scottsdale in 1971. She was a resident of Westminster Village in Scottsdale, where she peacefully passed with family by her side. "Mooze" was known for her quick witted sense of humor and pride in her Irish heritage. She was a wiz with numbers and worked crossword puzzles daily. She loved to play games such as Scrabble, Cribbage, and her all time favorite - Rummykub. She and her family spent lots of time sitting around the table playing games and laughing. She played to win. Kate was a devout Catholic who gave generously to her parish and many Catholic charities. She always enjoyed getting together with her family and friends and she deeply loved and was very proud of each one of her grandchildren. She is truly missed. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 1st from 5:00-8:00pm with Scripture Service at 7:00pm at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E Indian School Road, Scottsdale. Mass will be celebrated Friday, March 2nd at 1:00pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 11300 N 64th Street, Scottsdale. Interment will follow at 2:30pm at the National Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Dr. James P. McCormick Scholarship, Maricopa Community Colleges Foundation, c/o Phoenix College, 1202 W. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85013 (or online at www.maricopa.edu/foundation/ways) Or in memory of Kathryn to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Having worked in the Phoenix College Dental Programs for the past 26 1/2 years I was very blessed to know "Kate". She was the love of her husband Dr. 'Mac's life and those of us who knew her loved her as well. Together, they raised a wonderful family and made many of us feel like we were part of that family as well.
Love you, Kate, give Dr. Mac a big hug for me. Rest in wonderful, blissful peace...you earned it.
