Kathryn Robinson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 13 to May 15, 2008.
"Blessed are they that die in the Lord … they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them." Revelation 14:13. Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 12, 2008, at St. Clare Manor in Baton Rouge. She was welcomed at heaven's gate by her late husband, the Rev. Walton A. Robinson Sr. Always proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she surrounded herself with their photos in her home and her love for them in her heart. Serving the Lord Jesus Christ was an important focus of her life as she and her husband organized Calvary Baptist Church, Denham Springs, and pastored Immanuel Baptist Church, Denham Springs, and Satsuma Baptist Church, Livingston. A native of Central, she was a devoted Sunday school teacher for more than 65 years, most recently at Zoar Baptist Church, where she loved "her girls" in the Busy Bee Bible class. Visitation at Zoar Baptist Church was on Wednesday, May 14, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Kevin Hand, the Rev. Glen Miers and the Rev. Teryl Hebert. Speakers will be Bodi White and Bobby Callendar. Burial in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Greenoaks Funeral Home. Mom leaves to cherish her memory, a son and daughter-in-law, Walt and Jan Robinson, of Brandon, Miss.; and daughter, Patricia Gail Robinson Morgan. She was also loved dearly by her four granddaughters, Lisa Robinson Smith and husband Barry, of Sterrett, Ala., Angie Morgan Wall and husband Jason, Michelle Robinson McLamore and husband Shawn, of Brandon, and Ashley Morgan Patin and husband Deron. Her loving great-grandchildren include Christopher Smith, Hannah and Hayley Wall, and Matthew and Lauren McLamore. Extended family include five sisters, Martha Bergeron, of Central, Dot Hunt and husband Dee, of Zachary, Letha Carpenter and husband Trigger, of Baton Rouge, Florence Devall and Mamie Aubin, of Central; sisters-in-law, Carol White and Frances Robinson, of Central; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, the Rev. Walton A. Robinson Sr.; parents, Evans and Lizzie White; two brothers, Mack White and Eli White; three brothers-in-law, L.J. Bergeron, Eugene Devall and Raymond Aubin; sister, Lucille Shumate; and sister-in-law, Edna White. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jason Wall, Deron Patin, Barry Smith and Shawn McLamore; nephews, Bobby Callendar, Brian White and state Rep. Bodi White; and family friend, Jake Sessions. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephew, Ronnie Devall, and great-grandsons, Christopher Smith and Matthew McLamore. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Gideons International and The Louisiana Baptist Children's Home. Special thanks and recognition is given to the Busy Bee Bible class of Zoar Baptist Church for their devotion, love and support. The family wishes to especially thank St. Joseph Hospice and sitter Angelia Smith for their devotion and care. Mom will always be remembered as a devoted wife, a tender mother and a loving friend. "Her children will rise up and call her blessed." Proverbs 31:28.

Pat, I am so sorry about the loss of your mom. She touched my heart the first time I met her at Dr. Browning's office. I don't know you well but I can tell you are every bit as dear as your mom. That is the best tribute we can give to our moms. I will keep you in my prayers and I will ask that you keep me in yours. I lost my mom the day after you lost yours. You are in my thoughts and prayers and I do understand if you need to talk. Elaine

I am deeply saddened by the death of Mrs. Robinson. I loved her very much. She was like a grandmother to me, from the day I was born. She was truly a blessed woman and lived a beautiful life. My prayers are with the family at this time.

Who was Vivian Kathryn White Robinson?

She was a child of God, a devoted follower of Jesus, and a disciple of Christ. She was a witness for the Lord, always sharing scriptures and professing her faith to others. Her first response when meeting someone new was: “Honey, do you know the Lord?”

She was the love of Walton’s life—his “honey”, his “Kitty Kat”, his cherished wife.

She was a tender mother who never stopped encouraging her children to be their very best. She continuously quoted one of her favorite scriptures to them, from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

She was a priceless grandmother, Nannie, Mom Mom—who never spared her love, instead choosing to spare the rod and spoil the grandchild. AND she was the best back-scratcher around.

She was a wonderful daughter, sister, aunt, and friend.

She was altruistic, always looking for ways to help others. She tirelessly delivered meals to and visited with her “shut-ins”, even though she herself was aging. She was always giving to others, but never needed anything.

She was an avid basketball fan—forever rooting for the Bulls and cheering on her favorite player, Michael Jordan.

She was a horticulturist whose tender care could grow the most beautiful rose bushes and abundant blueberry bushes. And she always took delight in watching the beautiful butterflies circle her creations.

She was the chief meteorologist in our family. Whenever the sky had the faintest tint of gray, she would call each of us to sound her warning “BABY, Bad weather comin’ through!”

She never forgot special occasions, always calling or sending cards with handwritten notes in her perfect penmanship for holidays, birthdays, or simply for no reason at all.

She was a detective, aiding the Central substation by carefully listening to her police scanner and informing others of imminent danger.

She was the loudest singer in the church, always making a joyful noise.

She was Queen of the Busy Bees—teaching powerful Sunday School lessons, leading tea parties, and otherwise serving as a mentor and friend.

Contrary to Garth Brooks’ song, she claimed she had friends in HIGH places!

She was a fashion diva- always dressed in her finest, regardless of the weather or occasion. She made sure she had matching shoes, purse, and jewelry, including her rings from Walton worn on her perfectly manicured hands. She even continued the fashion trend of cat-eye glasses, long after everyone else had.

She was a top chef, making favorite dishes such as blueberry pound cake and banana pudding. She firmly believed all recipes called for a food processor. And for her granddaughters, there was a never-ending stash of Little Debbie Cakes hidden in her special snack drawer. Yes, all of her edible treats were delicious—except her grits!

She was a direct line to God, and we often suspected she had Him on speed dial, intervening for our every need. She even bragged how she had, through her prayer, hand-picked her grandchildren’s husbands for them.

She was a great Christian model for the ideal wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. We were blessed to have her as such an important part of our lives, and we will miss her greatly. But we will all follow in her footsteps, just as she expected.

She was so many things to so many people, but most importantly she was a Christian servant. God must be very pleased with who she was, and now He has decided her work is finished and it is time to come home to Him. By now, she must have heard first-hand one of her favorite scriptures from Matthew 25:23: “Well done, good and faithful servant…Come and share your Master’s happiness!”

And now, she is an angel in Heaven, reunited with Walton, and forever singing the praises of the Lord.

A darling little lady with a huge heart of love for everyone. Our sweet memories of how a mother's love is so abundant, kind, and to be cherished-she called everyone "Baby", loved her grandchildren and lived to see great grandchildren...how special and wonderful to have known a Godly woman...
