Kathy Janel McAlvey

The family of Kathy Janel (Jan) McAlvey, a lifelong resident of Chelan, is saddened to announce her unexpected passing on October 25, 2025, at the age of 71 years. Although in the last years of Jan's life she suffered from several illnesses we remember her as fun-loving, quirky, and generous. In her younger years she loved games, tennis, softball, singing, and playing guitar. Community-minded, she volunteered at many community activities, spent time as an EMT, and joined the Lake Chelan Chamber where she served a year as President. Her working years included a variety of jobs: running the snack bar on the Lady of the Lake with her sisters, working at Judy Jane Bakery, the cafe at Chelan Lanes, and then for many years working in the insurance business: the Slaugenhaupt Agency, the DeMartin Agency, and the Libke Insurance Agency. She loved serving her clients and would always go the extra mile. Jan became a wife and mother when she married Clark McAlvey in 1983 and together they had two children, son Joshua and daughter Erin. Both were her pride and joy. She shared her love of animals with them and the front room often held a menagerie of pets along with dogs and cats. Her last rescue pup, found by Erin, was Bonnie, a truly pampered and loved companion. She expressed her love through thoughtful gift giving and had a generous spirit. Gadgets and new inventions made her happy, little things that could save time and do 10 things! Christmas stockings for family often held one of her latest discoveries. An experimental cook she found happiness in new concoctions and creations. We miss her loving, lively spirit, and her joking nature. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Joshua and a grand-daughter, Raven. She is survived by her husband, Clark; daughter, Erin Ranno (Sean) and their daughter Kiersten; a daughter-in-law, Kendal and grandchildren Royce, Jordyn, and Hayden; also sisters Jill Risley (Ron McGaughey) and Julie Notman (Jim) and their four children. A memorial will be held at the Chelan Senior Center Sunday, December 14, at 2pm.
