Kathy Trelegan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 23, 2025.
Kathy Eyde Trelegan (Hilton), 71, passed away on February 9, 2025 unexpectedly in Barnstable, Massachusetts. She was born on December 31, 1953 in Paterson, New Jersey. Kathy and her husband resided in Bedford, Massachusetts with their children before moving to Barnstable Massachusetts to retire. Kathy dedicated her life to family, early childhood education, and community service, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew her.

Kathy attended secretarial school in Boston, Massachusetts. She worked as a secretary for many years before switching career paths and pursuing education in the field of Early Childhood at Middlesex Community College.

Kathy was well known for her work as a family childcare provider in Bedford, Massachusetts. Kathy provided a loving and educational environment in her home; the Step by Step Preschool Enrichment Program, for children and families, many of whom she continued to maintain connections with over the years.

Recognizing the need for support and professional development among family child care providers, Kathy worked with other providers in starting the Family Childcare Association in Bedford, Massachusetts. The association helped to increase awareness and resources to the profession, offering licensure support, professional development opportunities, and collaborative networking for providers and families alike.

After retiring, Kathy and her husband moved to Cape Cod. She volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and dedicated time to working with children at a local domestic violence shelter, planning activities that brought joy and comfort to families in need.

Kathy had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Music was a constant source of joy; she frequently attended concerts at the Cape Cod Melody Tent with her husband, children and grandchildren. Kathy also enjoyed trivia nights and dining out at her favorite restaurant, Embargo in downtown Hyannis, where they were well known and welcomed by those who worked there. Her favorite moments were spent with family-cherishing time with her children and grandchildren and planning fun-filled weekends for when they visited.

Yearly vacations with her beloved husband Greg to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, and Jamaica, were treasured traditions that brought them great happiness. She loved the beach and found peace watching sunsets at Millway Beach and delighted in celebrating the Fourth of July watching the fireworks with her grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, Gregory Trelegan Sr.; daughter Sara Franks; son Gregory Trelegan Jr. and daughter-in-law Savannah Trelegan; grandchildren Riley Franks, Timothy Franks, Ally Franks, and Charlotte Trelegan; brother and sister in laws Jeff and Nancy Trelegan, Chris and Dona Trelegan and Joel Trelegan as well as her nieces Elise, Meghan, and Kendall; Kylee and Jessi and nephews Justin, Mark, Tyler, and Sean. Kathy was predeceased by her parents Clifford L. Hilton and Jean Hilton and sister Beth Hilton.

A thoughtful and fun-loving mother, wife, aunt and Nana, Kathy will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of those they touched.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in the Spring/Summer in Bedford, MA to honor her memory. Dates and details to be determined.

Sending love and sincere sympathies to Kathy´s family and friends. It was great to see Greg Sr and Kathy in Mexico briefly in December. I will miss her wonderful, wacky sense of humour and her honest, brilliant laughter. Rest well, Kathy, and thank you.

I've known Kathy since we were little grade school children, and have thoroughly enjoyed being back in touch via Facebook for the past 10 or so years. She was one of the most kind and upbeat people I've ever known, and we will all miss her wit and her compassion. My condolences to Greg and her children and family members.

I am beyond shocked to hear this devasting news. How could God take this wonderful, thoughtful, kind, funny & vibrant woman from her family & friends? One of the few positive aspects of FB is the ability to re-connect, albeit remotely, with old friends. To Greg, Sara, Greg Jr , family members & friends, may you forever keep her warmth & beitiful spirit in your hearts.

OMG! No! No, no! Not my KT. nothing but utter shock and sadness. I have known Kathy for probably 20 years. Even though we never got the chance to meet in person, we always joked that we were separated at birth. such a loving and caring woman. My heart goes out to Greg and all of her family. and I know her mom is waiting for her in heaven with open arms. Rest in peace, my beautiful friend. And keep your fork... you will definitely be missed.
