Katie- we called her Katie. She was Irish and Italian- full of light, joy, fire and laughter. A dancer and a yoga instructor- we met waiting tables at Mr. Smith's in Georgetown. The three of us- Cheryl, too- became a trio of deep friendship. Katie and I would often get our hearts broken at the same time- and do our best to not burst into tears each time we picked up our orders. One night she turned to me and said- "Enough of this! As soon as we get off work, we are going to sit down, have a glass of wine and split a piece of apple pie and that will solve everything." And it did. Over the years, we each got married- and once again, cried on each other's shoulder as each marriage ended. Years went by- we would call each other out of the blue and always remembered each other's birthdays and sent cards at Christmas. And the love was still there- we lifted each other's spirits and hearts- it was a heart hug to talk to her. She was my lighthouse and my harbor and I did my best to be the same for her. Her faith was so very important to her- and her family as well. She handled every challenge with such grace, such courage- Katie- my beloved Irish twin- sister of my heart. I adore you, sweet girl and I know that you're watching over all of us with so much love. I'll keep looking up, I promise. I love you, dear friend. Heaven just got the most beautiful angel ever. My prayers and thoughts are with your family and loved ones. We will all miss you so, honey. Love you, sweet girl. Nancy
