Pine Prairie - Katie was born to her parents, Dillard and Aventine Brunet Johnson, who were residents of Katy, Texas at the time of her birth November 03, 1954. She was one of 6 siblings, all girls. During Katie's business career she was a resident of Lafayette and Pine Prairie, LA. Katie's diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia required her to return to her birth state of Texas beginning July 2018. Her dying wish, her goal, was to return home to be with her family. She returned to St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter House in Lafayette, LA, just 13 hours before she took her last breath surrounded by her loving family. At the time of her death, January 25, 2019, at the age of 64, Katie was a resident of Pine Prairie. Her life had come full circle. She had her attained her goal.

Memorial Services for Katie will be held as follows:

Private- family visitation Saturday, February 2, 2019, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. The public will be welcome at 1:00 pm, beginning with a rosary followed by a memorial service. Visitation will continue until 8:00 pm. All services and visitation will take place at Ardoin's Funeral Home, 709 West Main Street, Ville Platte, LA 70586, telephone (337) 363-2181.

Father Mitchell Guidry, pastor of Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, will conduct services.

Cremation with burial of the ashes will be held at a later date in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Pine Prairie, LA.

She is survived by her five sisters, Cathrina Manuel; Belca Carson and husband Ray; Nelta Brown and husband Dennis; Darlene Landreneau and husband Donald, all of Pine Prairie; and Madeline Cancienne of Alexandria; two godchildren, Kim Manuel and spouse, Hester Dugas of Lafayette; Dominique Landreneau of Pine Prairie; special caregiver, Joan Fuselier; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her companion, David Hicks; her nephew Scott Anthony Brown; and great-nephew, Tydan Carson.

Special thank you to all the many wonderful people who helped Katie on her quest to be cured, including her wonderful caregiver, Joan Fuselier; her entire work-family at Iberia Bank; Dr. Howard Wold, nurse, Connie, medical team, and staff at Hematology Oncology Life Center in Alexandria, LA; Dr. Sunil A. Bharwani, medical team, and staff in Alexandria, LA; Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA. Especially the staff and medical team of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX; nurses station of G16 West, Acute Palliative Care Unit G12, Leukemia Center-Dr. Philip Thompson; Acadian Ambulance; Pine Prairie Volunteer Fire Department and Police Department; and all the staff and medical team at St. Joseph Hospice Foundation, Carpenter House, Lafayette.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Joseph Hospice Foundation, Carpenter House. This is a Louisiana non-profit corporation which provides educational programs and assistance to terminally ill persons and their families, regardless of their financial resources.
