Kay Pugh Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Apr. 26, 2011.
PUGH, Kay Ransome, 62, of St. Simons Island, Georgia, passed away April 25, 2011 at her residence after a long battle with breast cancer. Mrs. Pugh was a native of Fort Valley, Georgia, where she graduated from Fort Valley High School in 1967. She was predeceased by her mother, the late Carolyn Dyer Ransome; and her father, the late R. E. Ransome. Mrs. Pugh is survived by her husband of 40 years, George Butler Pugh Jr., of St. Simons Island; daughter, Ashley Carroll of Macon, Georgia, daughter, Melissa Anderson of Midlothian, Virginia; three-year-old grandson, George Logan Anderson; and brother, Ronnie E. Ransome of Clermont, Florida. Also surviving Mrs. Pugh are mother-in-law, Mary Pugh, formerly of Hamburg, Arkansas, and now a resident of St. Simons Island; sons-in-law, Joshua Carroll of Macon, Georgia and Richard Anderson of Midlothian, Virginia; sister-in law, Debbie Ransome of Clermont, Florida; nieces, Kasey Lummus and Megan Ransome; and nephews, Johnny Ransome and Cliff Ransome. Mrs. Pugh and her husband, George, lived in the Richmond, Virginia area from 1973 until 1999 when they relocated to St. Simons Island. Mrs. Pugh devoted her life to her family, caring for her parents, and providing a loving, supportive home for her husband and daughters. She was steadfast in her commitment to her values, and instilled them in her children by example, through the way she lived her life and treated others. She cherished her time with daughters, Ashley and Melissa; and grandson, Logan, whom she adored. She and her husband George were best friends and constant companions, who enjoyed traveling together and dining frequently at many of the outstanding restaurants on St. Simons Island and nearby communities. Mrs. Pugh loved to spend time at the beach. She was grateful for the opportunity to live on St. Simons Island and enjoy the nearby beaches. As a breast cancer patient, Mrs. Pugh was an inspiration to other cancer victims and many who knew her. She was grateful for all the gifts God had given her, and was determined to live and enjoy her life to the fullest. Despite her disease and the difficult treatments endured, she remained cheerful throughout and never allowed self-pity to creep into her life. Pallbearers are Paul Brown, Bill Crowley, Bob Fisher,Tony Guthrie, Ken Parker, and Mrs. Pugh's sons-in-law, Richard Anderson and Joshua Carroll. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Lovely Lane Chapel in Epworth on St. Simons Island, with Reverend Lee Shaffer officiating. George, Melissa and Ashley,
It is May 21, and I only just heard about Kay. She was a lovely and loving lady who enjoyed life to the fullest. She brought much joy to those around her--too young to suffer.

Dear George, Ashley, and Melissa, i wept when i heard of Kay's passing. It has been a decade since we last shared a laugh and a visit, but the memories of those fun times we shared with the girls during those tender young years, and the lazy days by the pool at the club, will always bring a smile. I will remember her tanned and beautiful, loving and kind. You are in our hearts and prayers, love, the Henceroth Family

I knew Kay for about ten years and I was so blessed to have her as a dear friend. We would talk about the girls and Logan and she was so proud of her family and her marriage. She truly lived life to the fullest. When she was told she had cancer, she said it is what it is and all she could do was go on with life and she did just that. She had so much courage and so much love and support from her family and friends. I will always miss her and she will always have a very special place in my heart.
