Kazimierz Fimka Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 16, 2015.

Kazimierz "Kaz" Fimka, 66, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on July 15, 2015 in Enfield after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Kaz is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Victoria Becerra Fimka of Enfield; his daughter Katherine Velasquez; his son and daughter-in-law Andrew Fimka and Beth O'Boyle; and his two grandchildren Jonathan and Henley, all of Washington, D.C. Kaz is preceded in death by his parents Stanislaw and Helena Fimka of Poland. Born on March 8, 1949, Kaz was raised and educated in Probolowice, Poland. As a young man, he embarked on extensive travels that took him to many foreign countries before ultimately arriving in the United States in 1972. Finding a new home and the promise of opportunity, Kaz would become an American citizen in 1978. It was an honor he cherished the rest of his life and embodied in the American flag proudly flown outside the Fimka home. For the past 35 years, Kaz resided in Enfield where he was committed to raising his family and working in the region's precision manufacturing industry. His career included successful stints at the Stanadyne Corporation, Hamilton Sundstrand, and culminated with his co-founding of KF Machining in East Windsor; where he served as President for 15 years. Kaz took great pride in his work, and that's reflected in the many acclamations he received over the years, but even more so in the growing number of engineers and tradesmen who would visit his shop for advice and morning coffee. In addition to being an expert machinist, Kaz enjoyed home improvement projects large and small, following current events in the community and around the world, and on more relaxing days, tending to his bountiful vegetable garden or watching a New England Patriots game. Kaz was universally recognized as a hard working and generous man - a true example of selflessness that will be long remembered by those who knew him. His quiet, yet purposeful life was the foundation on which so many other lives have flourished, and this is especially true of his children who continue to benefit from his unconditional love. His family will receive friends on Friday, July 17 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield. His funeral service will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Francis/Mt. Sinai Regional Cancer Center, 500 Blue Hills Avenue, Hartford, CT 06112 and are encouraged. The family would like to thank Dr. Joel S. Silver and the medical staff at Saint Francis for the extraordinary care provided to Kaz over the course of 14 years. Condolences can be sent to 26 Sam Street, Enfield, CT 06082.
