Keith Allen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 20 to Nov. 21, 2009.
Keith Allen, 49, of Lufkin, was born January 18, 1960 in Lufkin, Texas. He passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and three sons. Keith was a long term employee of Vertis, Inc. and was a member of Lufkin's First United Methodist Church. He was a 1978 graduate of Hudson High School, where he was elected as an All-American Baseball Catcher and attended East Texas Baptist University. Keith loved all sports, but his passion was baseball, and he actively supported the Lufkin Youth Baseball Association for over 20 years as a team coach, coaching not only his 3 sons through the years, but countless other children as well. One of his greatest joys was that the kids affectionately called him "Coach Keith". He was also an avid deer hunter and a member of the 2-Bit Hunting Club. He will be missed by his family and many, many friends. Keith is survived by his wife of 26 years, Robin Melton Allen of Lufkin; sons, Russell Keith Allen, 24, of Kapaa, Hawaii, Zachary Ryan Allen, 18, of Nacogdoches, Texas and Robert Mark Allen, 15, of Lufkin, Texas. He is also survived by his parents, James and Rose Allen of Hudson; parents-in-law, Bob and Lynda Melton of Lufkin; brother, David Allen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Mona Melton of Lufkin; and nieces, Ashley Cowart of The Woodlands and Alexis Melton of Lufkin. Pallbearers will be Duncan Garner, Dr. Mel Cole, Doug Thompson, Roy Westbrook, Gandy Stubblefield and Gary Greening. Keith's family wishes to extend special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Mel Cole, Dr. Jose Capellan, Dr. Kavitha Pinnamaneni, Dr. Karina Urquia, A Pineywoods Home Health and the entire nursing staff at Woodland Heights Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care. Expressions of sympathy in Keith's memory may be made to the Hudson Hornets Baseball Booster Club, c/o Hudson ISD, 6735 Ted Trout Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904. Services for Keith will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009, in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend D. Nick Sholars officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.mem.com. Gipson Funeral Home, directors.

Robin,

Please accept my deepest sympathies in your and the Lufkin community's loss. Although Keith and I have not crossed paths since the early to mid 80's when we played baseball on the Brewers and golfed together from time to time, it all seems like yesterday. He and I also played little league baseball together and I always admired his keen, competitive spirit yet humble and warm disposition, both on and off the field.

My thoughts are with you and your sons...

To Keith's loving family...What a wonderful man this guy was!! There was never a question about how he felt about you Robin and his boys. He loved you guys very much and he always made that known. As he said in my last conversation with him "I don't know where I would be right now if it weren't for Robin and my boys" "they are my whole life" Keep your heads held high with your eyes on the "son" and he will provide the strength you will need in the days ahead! Russell, Zach and Mark, Surround yourself with friends and family and celebrate the life of your Dad. His great smile and encouraging words to me and my kids during the loss of Pete will forever be cherished.

Robin,
Keith and I went to high school together and though we have had very little contact since, whenever we would meet, he would always be so interested in the happenings of my family. The picture in the paper reminded me of how Keith always had a smile on his face because he always had something going on. Like the time that he wore his cap, sunglasses, and trenchcoat backwards to make the teacher think he was facing the front while he talked to the person behind him. I pray that God will bless you and the rest of the family with unmeasured grace at this sad time in your lives.
