Peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2014, Keith Matthews was called home. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirletta Matthews; devoted children, Chela and Keith Matthews,II; siblings, Albert, Arlene and Sylvia Matthews and Shirley Hayes; mother-in-law, Gladys Taylor; an uncle, Reuben Fitzgerald and a host of other relatives and friends. Friends may unite with the family on Monday, April 14, from 10 am until time of service 11 am at Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church 1720 Minnesota Avenue S.E., Washington DC. Interment will take place at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.

I wanted to be with you longer than I did, but glad I was there to hold and be held by my family at this time. Keith was my brother and my friend. I miss him now, but rejoice that he is with mom and we will be together again for all eteriny. I love you all. Albert

I had known Keith through work. I live in Johnstown, PA and worked down in D.C. about every six weeks and Keith was in the office I worked at. I am so saddened to hear of his passing. He was such a great guy. Another lady use to come down with me there too and we both just loved talking to him about family. I know how much he loved his family. We would go in his office to see his salt water fish tank and were amazed how pretty it was. You are in my thoughts and prayers and I know Keith will be missed.

Unc, there are no words to describe how I really feel but I know you understand. I am so glad we came by and hung out for awhile 3 weeks ago. I keeping hearing your voice as you say to me "Shorty look,they have really grown up" or "You know you love me just say it"..Well Unc I DO LOVE YOU... and I am so glad you has/had and always will been there.Thank you for your pep talks,words of wisdom and advice. Random texts, banter back and forth during basketball season, calling me and using your gov't "voice" to scare me and then laughing at me... You truly were my big brother (your voice is in my head right now saying, "Watch it, sis. You're not that much younger."), Keith, and I will miss you so much. One of your last texts to me, "It was great seeing you all again. Each of you are loved so much. Thanks so so much for being a part of our family."
