To the family of Spc. Keith A. Nurnberg:
my name is ssg tourula i was your sons tank commander for part of Korea and his first deployment to iraq. i spent 14hours with him everyday out on missions and we went though hell together and everyday he would always make me smile he was just one of those people that had that effect on you. he was also one of the most patriotic soldiers i have ever served with. he actually got in a fist fight with one of my other soldiers because he was talking bad about the flag true story. he was a great American and like a brother to be. his spirit will be with me forever.
Sincerely,

Dear family of Spc. Keith A. Nurnberg,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.
Very Sincerely
Frank G. Noyes

Father we entrust our brother Keith to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Keith in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.
Thinking and praying for you on the 1st anniversary of your passing into eternal glory. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Keith, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Barb,
This expression of sympathy is very late in coming, but I guess it's never too late to tell someone how very sorry you are for their loss. I don't know if you will remember me, but I was a nurse on the night shift. I can easily remember you because you are such a caring, bubbly, super person. Why do tragedies such as this happen to the good people? I can't imagine to feel the pain of your loss, but think of your family and your son often. He is truly an American Hero, and I thank all of you for allowing him to make the greatest sacrifice a person can make. I'm sorry it has to hurt so bad. I pray for healing for you and your family.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Tonya,
There isnt a day that goes by that I dont think of Keith. My husband, SGT Shawn Schuenke and Keith were barracks roomies prior to their departure. When Shawn and I had our courthouse wedding, Keith joined us for brunch and the ceremony to take pictures for us. I will never forget that special day that he was able to share with Shawn and I. Our weddings were also on the same day - December 30th, 2006.
He was a great man and true American Hero. Shawn and I will never forget him and how great a man he was. We will never let his memory fade in our minds and he will forever be in our hearts.
Know that Keith is now an angel watching over you, little Keith, your families and all of our men still in combat.
If there is anything, anything at all that you need, please dont hestitate to contact us. You are family in our eyes and you are very loved in our hearts.

Dear Tonya,
I think about you, your baby, and your husband, who is a hero, everyday. I pray for you all several times a day. I can not imagine what you are going through, and I wish I could take some the pain away. I really wish I could take some of the pain away, but I can't so I will just continue to pray all the time. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. You are one of the nicest teachers I know, and although I never met your husband, I will never forget the sacrifice he made for our country. I know that you will have a happy healthy baby boy soon to love so much. I will continue to pray for you and your family. Please know you, your unborn son, and husband are thought about everyday, and that I will never stop praying for the men and women that serve our county. God Bless you.

I'm a firend of Kelly's and also Capri. I did attend the funeral for your husband and I must say that is was beautiful. I would always here stories about you and him and felt in my heart that I knew so much about you all. I'm so sorry for your lost and just know that when your baby is born he will replace the pain that you are feeling. When you look at him just remember how much love you will have and always have for his father for blessing you with such a precious gift. Take care and God Bless.

To Tonya and Keith Jr.,Barbara & Alan, Jim and Mela, Cliff & Capri, Melissa & Sam, Christy & Nate, Kimmy, Grandmother Ann, Bonnie & Bud, Cliff Jr. & Carol, Judy & Clem.
At times like this, with the loss of Keith, its hard to find adequate words of prayer or comfort. And yes at times like this we are not so sure how to pray. Also, at times like this, its easy to find ourselves lonely, disturbed, restless, confused and perturbed. Its also true, we find ourselves way down here, God is way up above. Can he hear our faint, perhaps questionable prayer? Yes he can! Always remember, as difficult as it is, prayer helps to quiet the mind, it can unburden our hearts. In quiet times you can find newborn assurance that God does care. he will answer every small prayer. It can give you a shower of refreshment, it will give all of us the peace and understanding that we so desperately want at this time. It really is an unfailing prescription.
We believe God has already answered some early prayers. The outporing of love as expressed with hundreds of entries into Keith's guest book on the computer from people all over the United States. The wake at Spring Grove Funeral Chapel with hundreds of guests, friends, even strangers. The Patriot Guard from Wisconsin and Illinois standing at attention with their countless "American Flags" that waved so proudly with a stirring breeze. The devine service memorializing Keith with readings from the bible. The lengthy procession of cars and motorcycles to the cemetery at Pell Lake. Countless numbers of people standing along the highways and villages with signs, waving their appreciation for Keith, a "TRUE AMERICAN HERO." Keith certainly was the inspiration for this visible outporing of love and a tribute to his charming wife "Tonya" and soon to be, Keith Jr.
Keith is not alone. While we feel helpless at this time, and cannot fathom the reasons why things happen, we are really not alone with the Lord at our side and his complete healing process that will mend all of us, especially his warmly, devoted families.

Keith was my cousin. His loss has hit the family very hard. Keith was a great person. I was very honored to be one of his groomsmen at his wedding. Words cannot explain his loss. Despite the tragic loss our family has incurred, I am so grateful for the support our family has received. The Illinios and Wisconsin chapters of the Patriot Guard did an outstanding job honoring Keith. I cannot give enough praises for them. The Patriot Guard are truly exceptional people. I would also like to thank the various members of the community who gave support and solace in this most difficult time. I cannot thank you all enough.

I never had the opportunity to meet Keith but his death has touched me in a very profound way. My son was in sports with him, and graduated from East in 1999 as well. Your son is my hero, and my heart is breaking for you. I am the mother of three boys and I can't imagine losing them especially in this manner. My heart felt sympathy to all of you and know that although little Keith's arrival will be very bittersweet, he is the gift God intended for all of you to get you through this time of grief. You are all my heros because you gave him to all of us in order to help keep all of us free.

Tonya,
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. May God comfort you and give you strength. You have given so much of yourself to teaching and watching over our children, just as your husband selflessly gave his life watching over and protecting others. There are no words that can express how grateful we are to you both for the sacrifices you have made for our family and our country. As you await the birth of little Keith, please know that your students and their families are praying for you and are eager to lovingly welcome God's gift to you into this world.

I ran with Keith at McHenry High School. I am deeply sadened by all this, and my prayers are with him and his family. My mom played the music for his wedding and will be playing for him at the funeral. I will always remember Keith for his witty comebacks, goofy sense of humor and that big smile on his face.
Keith,
You will be missed but never forgotten. Thanks for all the good times! Please watch over us, your wife and your little boy. I know you can hear my prayers, so all I have left is Peace be with you friend and God Bless.
