Kelly BENJAMIN-SMITH Obituary
After a short but very courageous battle with cancer Kelly, 51, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2013. Everyone who met Kelly knew her kindness, caring and love of life as well as her dedication as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and educator. Rejoicing in Kelly's life yet mourning her death is her new husband and best friend Rick Smith, her two proudest accomplishments – daughter Tara (Chris) and son Bobby Pinnell, Rick's children Leslie and Jeff Smith, parents Ken and InaBelle Benjamin, sister Luanne (Kevin) McCarthy, brothers Jay, Guy and Cole Benjamin, nieces Cassie and Reagan, nephews Kyle and Weston and too many beloved friends to mention. A special heartfelt thank you to Dr. Dostaler and her team of wonderful nurses and staff at Bluewater Health Palliative Care unit and the "G" Radiology team and Dr. Fred Sexton of the London Regional Cancer Centre. There are no words to thank each of you enough. Kelly loved her teaching career; first as a classroom teacher in Windsor then as a vice principal in Sarnia at P.E. McGibbon. Kelly was so looking forward to being at her new school Lansdowne this September. Kelly loved cycling with Rick and friends, teaching Zumba, running and walking along the beach; each sunset was special to her. Kelly, Rick, Tara and Bobby participated in the Terry Fox Run to beat cancer on September 15th. Donations to the Terry Fox Foundation or donations to an animal shelter/SPCA of your choice would be appreciated as Kelly was an animal lover, especially her cat Gracie. A Celebration of Kelly's Life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Sarnia Riding Club, 980 Riding Club Lane, off Lakeshore Rd., Sarnia, from noon to 5:00 p.m. with tributes to Kelly at 1:00 p.m. All friends and family please join us in celebrating our amazing Kelly. I remember Kelly from Oakridge High School and she had that dramatic flair back then when she led the dancers in the play George M! Sad to hear this news.

Mrs.Benjamin was my Grade 8 teacher at Northwood. She was an amazing teacher and person who prepared every student VERY well on what to expect when we got into highschool. The Northwood Family will miss her deeply.

I am shocked and saddened to hear about her passing. She definitely brought a dramatic flair to Central Elementary! She was a hilarious teacher and made seventh grade my favourite year. All of my classmates loved her drama classes and I'm sure we will all remember her announcing her name in class with her expressive arm flares. My condolences to her family. She was a great teacher who was always there for her students.

I am so upset to hear of Kelly's passing, I had the pleasure of taking my Master's of Education with Kelly. She was the first person I met and we became instant friends. We would try and plan as many courses together as we possibly could. She was so amazing, so intelligent. She always had such an elegance to her. Rick, Bobby, Tara and Family, I am thinking about you during this very difficult time.
