Kelly Dupnick UPPER (Alice Horne)
Kelly Dupnick, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and retired teacher, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 24, 2025, at age 82, following complications from leukemia.
Born Alice Horne on August 21, 1943, she grew up in
Sweetwater, Texas. In a nod to her independent spirit, she requested a middle name for her 16th birthday and formally became Alice Kelly Horne. She attended multiple colleges and universities, including Tarleton State and the University of Hawaii (where she learned and ultimately taught hula), before graduating from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Mathematics.
She began her career in the air and space industry, working for General Dynamics, Lockheed Missiles & Space, and writing code for NASA's Apollo Program. While working at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, she met the love of her life, Ed Dupnick. They married in 1968 and together raised four children: Paige, Peter, Paul, and Brooke.
Kelly was actively involved in the Mothers of Twins Club, various PTAs, and League City United Methodist Church. She served as soccer "Team Mom," an Aggie Mom, on the executive boards of many organizations and clubs, and ran numerous carpools. She pursued her passion for education, working as a substitute teacher in Fairfax County Schools in Springfield, Virginia, and later, as a Special Education teacher at Brookside Intermediate School in Friendswood, Texas.
Upon retirement to the Texas Hill Country in Lago Vista, she remained active in her community, volunteering with
Habitat for Humanity, serving as treasurer for United Christian Women, outreach coordinator for Rolling Hills Community Church, and assisting families in need through the St. Vincent de Paul ministry at St. Mary Catholic Church. She worked with various church related disaster recovery groups to cleanup and repair churches damaged from hurricanes and floods in Austin, Beaumont, and Oak Island Texas. It was during these years that Kelly developed some of her strongest friendships in a caring community support group.
Kelly faced her illness with strength and grace, and her life ended in peace, surrounded by her husband and children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Jean Horne, and her sister, Sue Moorhouse. She is survived by her husband, Ed; her four children: Paige, Peter, Paul, and Brooke; nine grandchildren: Chris, Ashley, Garret, Mason, Harrison, Lyndal, Stella, Levin, and Beck; and two great-grandchildren: Chris and Easton.
A memorial service will be held at the Rolling Hills Community Church in Lago Vista, Texas, on January 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to
