Mary,
My thoughts are prayers are with you for the loss of your daughter Kelly. It is only recently that I learned of her passing. You had introduced Kelly to me when I had run into you at one of the food markets around town. Her infectious personality was well expressed in the entertainment column that she wrote for the Sentinel.

Stumbled across this page while reading the Sentinel, and this news truly touched my heart! My deepest sympathy go out to Kelly's family... "God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Good night, Kelly. I guess your wonderful laughter and the shining light you carry within you were needed elsewhere in the universe. That's the only way I can understand the newsroom, the world, without you. Because the joy in this world is diminished in your absence.
Every newsroom needs a Kelly Fitzpatrick to keep its collective nerves below red alert. Everybody needs a Kelly for the shot of fun she brought to life. Everyone needs to know a Kelly to keep the world in perspective and to remind us to enjoy every day. Every heart needs a Kelly to be shown how hearts can be big and bold, and welcoming and unafraid.
Good night, Kelly.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kelly's family, mother Mary, husband Casey and loved ones. It was such a joy to work with Kelly at the Orlando Sentinel. Prior to our Sentinel days, we would run into each other at UCF back in the late 90s when visiting friends in the old Lake Claire dorms. We have so many fond memories of Kelly. She was amazing person and will be terribly missed by all.

There was no situation that she didn't see, not only the bright side, but the best possible side of. This unnatural goodwill kept her perpetually happy, something the rest of us should emulate if not plagiarize outright. Her joy was instinctual, no pretense or preparation, she was simply delighted to be alive.

Kelly probably wouldn't remember me well since my days were winding down at The Sentinel while she was just getting going. But, I was so proud of her for coming from UCF's J-School and doing so well. She had the drive to excel, anyone could see it. Kelly helped prove that a UCF journalism degree, combined with talent and a strong work ethic, was all that is needed to be successful.
