KEN RITTER Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Oct. 28 to Oct. 29, 2011.
KEN RITTER It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Ken Ritter on October 24, 2011. Ken died peacefully after a 10 month battle with brain cancer. Predeceased by his parents Pius and Helen Ritter, Ken is survived by his previous and caring wives, Monica Ritter and Jean Ritter; son Ramon (Kristi, Nathan, Carson) Ritter of Regina; daughters Felice (Dan, Jackson, Erika, Elliot) Mourre of Sovereign and Nicole (Ryan, Phoenix, Whitmore, Pillar) Galbraith of Prince Albert; brothers Keith and Bruce Ritter and sisters Joyce Stretch and Bev Hanson. Ken was born in Kerrobert, SK on February 24, 1947. He grew up in Major, SK and graduated from Major High School. He completed 3 university degrees: B.A., B.Ed, and LL. B. Degrees (Arts, Education and Law). He operated the family farm in the Major-Superb area. Ken practiced law in Regina and Kindersley. He taught school in Australia and Marengo, SK. He was involved in the community through the Rotary Club, Kinsmen Club, and Minor Hockey. Ken served as Chairman of the Saskatchewan Surface Rights Arbitration Board. Ken also worked as the assistant to the Provincial Finance Minister. He co-designed The Saskatchewan Farm Security Act. He was also a past Commissioner of the National Transportation Agency of Canada. Following this, Ken became a Director of the Canadian Wheat Board, and shortly after this, he became the Chairman of the CWB for 10 years. Ken's interests were many and varied. He loved playing bridge and recently became a Life Master. Ken enjoyed watching movies, golfing, and travelling. He was an avid reader of current events, geography, and history. He enjoyed the atmosphere of a small town community and was often seen visiting with the locals at the coffee shop. Ken loved driving around to view crops, machinery, and land. Ken valued education and worked hard to be successful in his various careers. He was a hyper, active grandpa and loved to wrestle, play wolf, and play soccer with his grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at the Kindersley Union Hospital for their care and dedication. A special thank you to Ken's sister Joyce Stretch for her many months of care. Thank you to Father Gerard Cooper for his many visits, prayers, and funeral service. Thank you to all friends and family for your concern, prayers, and visits during Ken's battle with cancer. Prayers will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600-4th Ave.W. in Kindersley, Sk. on Friday, October 28th at 7 pm and the funeral on Saturday, October 29th at 11 am. Lunch, eulogy, and fellowship to follow in the parish hall. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Kindersley Food Bank c/o Prairie Rose Florist.

I wish to pass on my condolences to the Ritter family. Ken was a former law partner of mine in Kindersley and was instrumental in my career with the provincial government. Most of all though I will remember Ken as one of the most intelligent and well versed persons I have have ever had the opportunity to have association. He has left a large footprint.
I am presently in Europe on vacation but wanted to send on my thoughts to the family.
