FATHERS, Kenneth Passed away suddenly late in the evening of July 24, 2002 at Windsor Regional Hospital-Metropolitan Campus at the age of 76. Beloved husband of fifty years to Leona (nee Roach). Son of the late Ralph Fathers and the late Cora Fathers. Loving father of Mark and wife Kelly (St. Clair Beach), Brian and wife Martha (Tillsonburg), Elaine Panikkar and husband John (Toronto) and Karen McConnell and husband Robert (Bob) Windsor). Grandfather of Candace, Jason, Frazier, Severen, Brendan, Evan, Kenna and Meghan. Survived by brothers Eric (Windsor), Ronald (Ron) and wife Janice (Collingwood) and Gary and Mary Anne (St. Clair Beach) along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ken was a sports reporter of 46 years for the Windsor Star retiring in 1991. During that time, he was a recipient of many awards as acknowledgement of his contribution to sports in Windsor and Essex County. Some of the awards included the CIAU Frank Sgambati Memorial Media Award, was a member of the Windsor-Essex Sports Hall of Fame, the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Award, the Ontario Universities Athletic Association (OUAA) media award, was honoured by the Windsor Secondary Schools Athletic Association for years of dedication to high school sports, and was a member of the Windsor Essex Ten Pin Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Upon his retirement, a trophy in his name is presented each year to the most valuable player in the Windsor Essex County Secondary Association Football League. Ken was also a member and past president of the Windsor Sportsmen's Club and former Board Chair of the Windsor Separate School Board. Friends will be received at the Morris Sutton Funeral Home and Chapel, 68 Giles Blvd. East (254-8633) on Sunday July 28, 2002 from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel on Monday July 29, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery. Father Larry Brunet officiating. In kindness, donations may be made in Ken's honour to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation-Oncology fund, the Italian-Canadian Handicapable Association Building Fund or to the charity of your choice.
