Kenneth Gernaat Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 18 to Mar. 21, 2021.
Gernaat, Kenneth Kenneth E. Gernaat, age 84, passed away peacefully and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Ken was a loving husband and dad, who cherished his family, but his grandchildren were his true pride and joy. He was born to Albert and Helena Gernaat and raised in Falmouth, MI before he moved to Hudsonville where he resided. Ken proudly served his country in the US Army. He retired from General Motors after 32 years of dedicated service. His love of the outdoors led him to own Gernaat's Christmas Trees in Hudsonville which he operated for several years. Above all, his faith and commitment to Jesus was evident to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Gernaat, and his son, Kevin Gernaat; his siblings, Geraldine Koetje, Joan Marcusse, Byron Gernaat, and Gord Gernaat. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Karen (Johnson); his children, Kari and Scott Overweg, Kurt and Mary Beth Gernaat; his grandchildren, Katie and Luke Brouwer with Ken's first great-grandson, Tyce Lee, Kalyn and Luke DeYoung, Case and Ashtyn Overweg, Lexi and Nick Glowacki, Austin and Leigha Gernaat; siblings, Maxine Postema, Muriel and Larry "Lork" Dreyer; sister-in-law, Karen Gernaat-Jipping; also lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Covenant Community Church, 4276 Baldwin St, Hudsonville with Pastor James DeVries officiating. Burial Blendon Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 2-5 pm at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to LOVE, Inc. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com.

Thoughts and prayers for the family as you experience the loss of your mate Karen and the father of your children. Praying you’ll experience the peace and comfort of our Heavenly Father today and in coming days as you adjust to life without him. Looking forward to the day when we’ll all be together again for all eternity.

Ken’s smile and his love for his family and his God we’re so evident. I will remember fondly singing “No God Like Jehovah...” with him. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. Sending prayers for your family at this time of your loss.
