Kenneth Gunning Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 19, 2015.
Kenneth was born in Marion, North Dakota on June 2,1927 and passed away on February 17, 2015.
He grew up in Enid, Oklahoma and came to Pueblo, Colorado where he met his wife, Norma L. Hudgins. They married on September 23, 1953 and lived and worked in Florence, Colorado for Arthur Hudgins driving a truck. A year later they had their son, Richard on November 2,1954 in Florence. Ken went into the U.S. Army on January 5, 1955, and left the Army as a SP3 in January 1957. Their daughter, Cynthia was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 26,1956. After leaving the Army they moved to Commerce City, Colorado. Their daughter, Charlotte was born on May 29, 1958 in Denver.

Ken worked for American Beauty Macaroni as a long distance truck driver for as long as we can remember. He retired from American Beauty and finished his driving career with BECO Mail. They left Commerce City and moved to Holiday Hills in 2004 where he and Norma lived until he passed away.

Ken had 4 children, Mike Gunning (Mother, Sybil), Rick, Cindy, Charlotte (Mom, Norma). One daughter-in-Law Doreen, one Son-in-law Charlie. 11 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

He never knew a stranger, was able to talk to everyone whether he knew them or not. He would greet everyone with a bright and truthful smile. His nieces and nephews where treated just like any of his children. He loved and cherished them all.
He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him!

Four years later, we have positive memories about Kenneth. I don't think he ever met a stranger and he was a happy person. His love for Norma was special. Thinking of you Kenneth.

As you can tell from what has been written, Uncle Kenneth had a way of making us all feel special. As you celebrate his life today, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all. His smile, laugh and voice will live forever in my heart and soul.

Grandpa, thank you for everything you've done. I wouldn't be who I am without you. I love you so much and will truly miss you. I was not ready to let you go, but I know grandma will be happy to be with you again.

Uncle Kenny, you were always so alive with life. I love your smiles and the way you always made us feel treasured. God knew what he was doing when he gave you to us. And I just want to say thank you for always being who you are. You are the very best guy! And I know that Jesus took one look at you and said, "Well done! My good and faithful servant." I love and miss you dearly. Lorilea

To find a consistently cheerful presence is a treasure. From my first visit to Holiday Hills Community Church, Ken was welcoming and generous with his smile and ready to listen. Certainly his light continues to shine.

A few memories of my Uncle Kenneth are these: Since he was only 12 when I was born I remember him when he was young and he stayed young at heart He was always one of best looking men in a group. I loved the sound of his voice, his laughter and most of all his ready smile. Who could resist that smile. He is missed

I will forever keep ken in heart. I will miss his laughter, kindness and genuine love he had for everyone who touched his life. We joked with each other on almost a daily basis and I already miss that. My life will forever be empty without him and his smile. I Love You Ken

I want to express my deep condolences to Ken's family. I just met him recently compared to all of you who knew him and I became very fond of him in such a short time, so I can imagine how much more your grief is in losing him. I will sincerely miss him and his smile, but I bet-cha he is in heaven right now and smiling there also.

I will miss Uncle Kenneth a great deal. I loved the visits here in Kansas with Mom. He always had kind and good words for everyone and we always shared the good times and the bad times with him. I'm glad he and Mom were able to spend so much time together. He was very much loved and he will be very much missed.

We will sincerely miss Kenneth, a "friend" to everyone. I think everyone in the family always looked forward to seeing him. On occasion, he would go a little out of his way to drop by my mother's house to say hello. That BIG truck was quite a hit in the neighborhood, but seeing him was pretty special too. Kenneth and Norma were always glad to see us anytime we could get to Denver. On one trip, he took time off from work to take me to a mountain resort for trout dinner. That was memorable.

Kenneth really enjoyed working at the county fair after he retired. He met a lot of people and treated them as though he had known them all of his life. He also enjoyed socializing with the people at the Holiday Hills Retirement complex and was always happy about his "exercise" sessions that allowed him to sit and chat with friends after his walk.

There are too many wonderful memories to tell here, but I know he loved his family and was proud of each of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He talked about them often. We will miss you Kenneth, but we know you are in God's Hands.!

My dear cousins all of you and your families are in my thoughts and prayers. I haven't seen you in forever but I still remember you as children and seeing you when we came there to visit and when you came here to visit I know how much you will miss him but know that your mom and him have been reunited in heaven. He was truly a good man. I will miss him.

Uncle Kenneth and Aunt Norma are sadly missed, I will always remember my phone conversations with the both of them as well as the great times we spent together at the Gunning reunions. Uncle Kenneth always made me feel close to the family even tho many of my growing up years were without the Gunning connection. I am thankful I was able to of known and met many of my relatives and become one of what I feel a great family. Uncle Kenneth, Aunt Norma Love and miss you.
