Kenneth (Kenny) Kuhn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 14, 2025.
Kenneth "Kenny" Robert Kuhn, 79, died suddenly on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. He was born in New York, New York, on May 21, 1946, to Robert Joseph Kuhn and Margaret (Sigler) Kuhn.

Kenny's parents were devoted to their family and built a life rooted in love and hard work. His father, Robert, was born in the Bronx on October 11, 1924, and lived a spirited and generous life until his passing at age 87 in Okeechobee, Florida. His mother, Margaret, was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on May 5, 1925, and passed far too soon at age 60 in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Margaret was a selfless, fun-loving mother to her children and their friends. The family moved from Port Chester, NY to Broward County, Florida in 1957.

Kenny graduated from McArthur High School in 1965, where his interest in cars began to shape his future. He spent countless hours tinkering with his 1955 Chevy. After swapping out its exhaust, the car's thunderous roar was the talk of the neighborhood. Neighbors may have grumbled, but his mother loved it-she could tell, by the sound, when Kenny shut the car off in the school parking lot and when he started it up again to head home after school.

After graduation, Kenny began working for Russ Barfield, a well-known figure in the racing world. There he perfected his skills of building and repairing engines, and he began converting his '55 Chevy into a drag racing car. With encouragement from his brother Alan, Kenny soon shifted gears toward circle track racing. Circle track became a lifelong passion. Over six decades, he shared that passion with Alan, his son Robert, and scores of fellow racers and friends. Kenny was always ready with a wrench, a story, or a helping hand, qualities that made him beloved in the racing community.

For the past 25 years, Kenny shared his heart and his life with Jean Kassin. Together they found joy in country music, line dancing, staying up late to watch their favorite TV shows, and raising Doberman Pinschers. Jean survives him and deeply mourns his passing.

Kenny is also survived by his son, Robert Eugene Kuhn; his brothers Alan Kuhn and Bobby Kuhn; his sister Margaret (Midge) Kuhn Phillips; his two grandchildren, Robert Kuhn and Alicia Kuhn; and several great-grandchildren. They are all devasted by the loss. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his first wife, Annie.

Kenny will be remembered for his love of cars and racing, the warmth he brought to his family and friends, and his ability to live fully and joyfully. His legacy roars on, much like the engines he loved to build and race.

Kenny was a loving partner to my mom. I have many memories of him at the holidays and many other times. I loved most his gracious attitude hosting my daughter many times when she would stay at their house. Often driving to our halfway meeting spot to do the "exchange". I remember when I first shared the news of my pregnancy (carrying Piper) and gave a baby bottle to my mom and him to announce the news. He had such a big grin on his face. Years later he was there for Piper. We enjoyed traveling with him to Canada and the multiple times he came to visit us. I loved joking with him about so many funny stories he would share over the years. It is such a loss. He was a fantastic person.
