Dear Sally, Cindy and Bob,
Ken was a great friend during my years in RI. I spent many happy hours golfing with him and listening to his stories told with wonderful dry humor. I remember him scolding me for dangling my leg out of the golf cart and his gruesome story of what might happen. I have missed my lunches with him since leaving RI.
Please accept my sincere condolences and sympathy. He was a great man.

I am so grateful for having known Dr Knowles and having been fortunate enough to have him be our team doctor at Brown. The Knowles family was always so generous having players to their home and it was deeply appreciated. My sincere condolences to Mrs Knowles and the entire family.

Doc Knowles was a special person..and we always loved his smile
I will never forget sharing a providence hospital room after ACL surgery during freshman year (way back in 1979) with Steve DiCarlo after he got his shoulder operated on.
Doc Knowles visited us daily joking around and helping us with the recovery/rehab over a multi month period..he was always so calm and full of heart..and created so many memories for all of us..juyst can't believe that was 40 years ago
Please accept our deepest sympathies and know that doc's love, support and positive memories will always be with us:) Les (brown '84), mike and mark (brown '87) rechan

Sally,
As you know, I enjoyed Ken's friendship for all of his professional years at Brown and, in particular, I fondly recall his pairing with Joe Castro to care for the physical needs of the men's ice hockey team.
Ken's passing is deeply felt and my personal regret is that I did not see more of him in recent times. He was a true joy to be around and I will never forget him. I trust you are comforted by the fact that Ken lived a long and productive life.
Anita and I send you our sincere condolences and prayers on your loss. God bless and comfort.

"A good doctor treats the disease. A great doctor treats the patient who has the disease." Those words of Dr. William Ousler summarize the medical career of Dr. Ken Knowles. Ken had a knack for making each patient feel that he or she was the most important person he was treating. The only person who loved Ken more than his family and friends were his patients. Ken did more kind things on a slow Tuesday than many of us accomplish in a lifetime. It will be difficult for Sally, the children and the grandchildren to say goodbye. Memory is the first great gift of nature and the last to be taken away. As long as you have memory, Ken will always be with you.

Dr. Knowles was one of the most kind, gentle, compassionate, & talented physicians I have met during my years in the health care profession. He was an exceptional surgeon & made us a valued member of his team approach to patient care. His patients, staff, & ancillary health care providers had immense professional admiration & respect for his surgical skill. We also felt he was our friend because he was always accessible, listened, & truly cared. He chose his profession wisely, & made an indelible impact in the RI Healthcare Community!
