Kenneth Long Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 18 to Mar. 27, 2023.
Kenneth E. Long was born on August 3, 1947 in Gaffney, SC. Ken passed away peacefully on March 15, 2023 surrounded by family. Even on the toughest days of his illness, Ken showed bravery, strength and of course, his signature sense of humor.

Ken was not only big in stature, but he was also big on personality, his presence filled the room in more ways than one.

Ken graduated from Limestone College with dual degrees in math and biology. Ken served in the Army National Guard as a tank commander.

His 32-year long career at Fluor (early years Daniel Construction, Fluor Daniel) took him all over the world. Ken has lived in China, Ireland, Puerto Rico and from coast to coast in the United States, but his heart and his home were always in SC.

After his retirement from Fluor, Ken lived his life to the fullest. For fun, he and Eileen enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas to celebrate their birthdays, anniversaries and life in general.

Ken was the loving husband to Eileen (Alley) Long for 28 years, and brother to Ora Jane Hensley (Glenn). Ken was preceded in death by his son Jake Long, and his parents Edward and Rena Long.

A graveside Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, March 31 at 2:00 PM at Graceland East Memorial Park. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the Chapel.

To say we miss you would be totally inadequate. We miss your smile and your quirky sense of humor. I´ll continue to watch over the love of your life, as we know you are.

I just heard about Ken's passing today. I am very sorry to hear about it. Ken was a good guy. I have known him and worked with him off and on at Daniel and Fluor since the late 70's. He was a stand up, cut through the BS type guy. I enjoyed working with him and knowing him. I know you'll miss him very much. May God and your friends and family help you get through it.

Eileen, Please accept my deepest condolences. Ken was a unique and true friend in so many ways. We first met and worked together in the early 70's during the Daniel Construction era and remained friends to this day. I will miss our spur of the moment telephone conversations that usually went on for an hour. Talking with Ken always put a genuine smile on my face. We will all miss him dearly but our memories will endure.

Eileen, words cannot express the deep sorrow I feel with you now. We never have enough time with the ones we love. Just think of all the good memories the two of you made and be thankful. Rough times are ahead but I´ll be with you every step of the way. Love you. Hugs and prayers.
