Beloved husband, father, friend, and educator Kenneth E. Mance entered into eternal rest on
Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Born in Darlington, SC, Mance dedicated his life in service to his family, the church, education, and the youth of South Carolina.
Mance graduated from Mayo High School in Darlington, attended Claflin College in Orangeburg earning his BS in Chemistry, and received his Masters Degree in Education Administration at the University of South Carolina, Columbia. During his 41 years of service as an educator, Mance built his reputation as a strong disciplinarian who believed in children. Through his leadership, mentorship, and guidance, Mance touched and changed the lives of thousands of children in the communities of Darlington, Florence and Clarendon Counties.
An active member of many civic and church organizations, Mance was formerly Chairperson of the Clarendon Country First Steps Partnership Board and was proud to work alongside members of the South Carolina Association of Black Educators, South Carolina Foster Care Review Board, USC Alumni, NAACP, his brothers at Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and other service organizations.
Homegoing service for Mance will take place at noon on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Historic Trinity AME Church, 39 W. Rigby Street, Manning, SC., with the Rev. Drusilla Harvin, officiating and assisted by Presiding Elder John Gillison. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens Effingham, SC. The brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity will conduct an Omega Omega Service at the Fleming & DeLaine Funeral Home Chapel of Manning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008.
Kenneth E. Mance was predeceased in death by his son Kenneth E. Mance Jr. and his parents William and Ernestine English Mance.
He is survived by his wife Georgia Moye Mance; daughter, Keyna Mance, Columbia, SC; son, Brian Mance, Alcolu, SC; brothers, William ( Diane) Mance, Ashville, NC, Alphonso (Kathleen) Mance, Nashville, TN, George Mance, Fort Washington, MD, Frank (Donna) Mance, Wake Forest, NC , sisters Barbara Johnson, Durham, NC, Janette (Frederick) Warsaw, Durham, NC, Hazeline (Lawrence) Jackson, Houston, TX; granddaughter Kedejah Mance, Columbia, SC; aunts, nieces, nephews, a loving extended family and many loyal and dedicated friends.
The family will receive friends at 1510 Brogdon Road, Alcolu, SC 29001.
