Kenneth Mullen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2018.
Kenneth H. Mullen of Camp Hill, PA, passed away September 26, 2018 at the age of 76.

The only child of Ed and Hilda Mullen, he grew up in the farmlands of Rebuck, PA. He was the first in his family to attend Penn State University, earning an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Ken joined the PA Air National Guard's 271st Combat Communications Squadron, from which he retired after 25 years of honorable service. He was a ham radio operator, and a 60-year member of the American Radio Relay League.

Ken's first job out of college was with Bell Telephone, which he maintained as the company became Bell Atlantic then Verizon Communications; he retired 39 years later as a Senior Engineer. One of his proudest accomplishments was his work in building the 5ESS switching system in Bradford, PA.

Ken was an active member of Sons of Norway, and its affiliates, Ski for Light and Sports for Health. He and his wife volunteered their time to work with blind and visually-impaired persons for 12 years.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 52 years, Astrid, and his beloved daughter, Christine, as well as extended family in Pennsylvania, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Great Britain.

Despite the physical obstacles and limitations he faced, he met every day with joy, and never complained. He led a life of faith, giving and compassion, a legacy he continues as an organ donor.

Ken will be inurned in a private ceremony at Ft. Indiantown Gap. He requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Northeast Pennsylvania Regional Ski for Light / Sports for Health (http://www.nepasfl-sfh.org/donations.html).
