Dear Ohana,

I only have fun and loving memories of Uncle, so that's what it'll be now and forever...I got my first skateboard from your selfless family. I remember sleeping on your floors, sleeping in your upstairs bedrooms, eating your food, tasting your fruit from the tree in the backyard, playing on the streets in your neighborhood, watching and learning Atari games, watching Disney videos. I remember laughing at your jokes, watching you read the newspaper, asking you questions and getting an answer that was usually mixed with humor. I especially remember your wise spirit.

Aunty, Lori, Kinue, Tamiko, Kurt, Ren...we love you guys!! Always will.

Mahalo, Unko, for your influence on me as a young man. We will meet again.

Dear Auntie and cousins,

We send all of our love from Denver! We pray that the Lord will bless you with His peace at this time.

Uncle Koji was one of my favorites to visit when I was a kid. No matter how many questions I asked, comments I made or how much I pestered him, he always talked to me like I was on the same level as he was. Whether we were talking about the Lakers, playing a game or I was watching him work, he listened to me. He asked my opinion, teased me when I needed it, made me feel like he was genuinely interested in what I had to say. I always felt better about myself when I talked to him. Every time we came to visit, i couldn’t wait to have the chance to tell him the latest thing I was working on or the chances of the Lakers winning the championship that year. I can’t wait until I get to visit with him again.

Aunty Lorraine, Cousins and Family,

We send all of our love and aloha to you all. I have so many fond memories with Uncle from our time we spent living in California. My special moments were when he would take me to get ice cream and also all the times he would let me talk his ears off with all of my questions about what he was working on in his office. I remember being so fascinated as a child by all of his creations.

Uncle was always so kind, loving, and funny. Always found a way to make us laugh.

I see and have felt his legacy of kindness, love, and laughter in you all.

We pray for God’s love to abide with you all during this time and that you feel comfort and peace.

We love you all family

Dear Aunty Lorraine and cousins,

Mark and I send our condolences and love this day to you all.

Uncle will always be remembered by us for many attributes, character and his Christ like love. I especially loved his child like laughter as we played on the Atari game system in his office. I marveled at his work and even took a drafting class in school to see if it might be something I might have the knack for. Just many little things that he did which remains as my fond memories of him.

Uncle Koji always showed love and kindness to me and my family. His kind, gentle, and loving demeanor always made me feel safe. I will always be grateful for his example of patience and kindness.

Dear Auntie Lorraine and Cousins,

Our family would like to express our love for your family, especially for uncle Koji. All of us have great memories and stories from reunions and get togethers. One of my favorite memories of him is when I was a little girl and was visiting your family in California. I went up to where Uncle was working and he showed me what he was working on and let me sit in his chair and draw something at his desk. He stood behind me and told me how wonderful it was. Of course, it was not very good, but he only told me how amazing I was doing. Uncle had such a quiet yet intentional way of serving each person around him. He always made sure we knew that he was aware of us and that he appreciated us. We will miss his smile and funny personality, and I am so grateful we have this wonderful Plan of Happiness and that we will see him again! Love you all so much and love you, Uncle!

Dear Aunty Lorraine and Ohana,
One of our fondest memories of Uncle Koji and all of you are the fun, memorable trips we shared with each other. Your home was always open to us, from childhood time and we remember everyone’s sense of humor individually and collectively. There was so much love in the household and felt so welcomed each time we were there. We are so sorry for your loss and extend our love and warmest aloha to you all.

Dear Auntie Rainie and my dear cousins,

Please know how much we love you. We shed tears sadness in losing our beloved Uncle Koji and tears of joy as we remember his life. One of my favorite things to do was to sit by him and watch his magical artistic abilities come through in his drawings. He was the reason I wanted to learn how to draw growing up. He probably was annoyed with me asking him so many questions but I appreciated his kindness and patience with me. Your family has always had such a special place in my heart and you have always welcomed Julie and my children with open arms of love. We love you dearly and are praying for you in this difficult time. May the Lord’s peace be with you always. -Kunane and Julie

To Auntie Lorraine and Family,

I am so saddened to hear of Uncle Ken's passing. Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all. I'm sure the greetings of open arms and loving embraces of pure aloha were there as he walked through the gates. A reunion of so many great friends and loving family members, with him completely remembering each and every one of them. How wonderful! He will be truly missed by so many hearts and lives he touched with his warm and happy smile; we are all blessed to have known him. Love you Uncle!

Dear Okabe Family,
Our deepest condolences and sympathies on the passing of Uncle Koji. I have many fond memories of spending time with him, whether it was walking to MacArthur Park to catch some blue-gills, hanging out around a camp-fire, or looking at his photos and drawings. Uncle Koji and his beautiful drawings and renderings inspired me to go into the field of architecture and later landscape architecture, and I am so thankful to have him as both a professional and personal role model. Although we will miss him dearly, we know and are comforted by the fact that we will see him again and celebrate that he is with our Lord and Savior.
With profound gratitude, love, and Aloha,
Lance O.

To Aunty Lorraine, Lori, Kochan, Kinue, and Tamiko & Families,
Please know we are grieving in our hearts with you all. We loved Uncle Koji so much! He was always so kind and funny and yes, sometimes “thrifty” (but aren’t we all?). We will miss him so much.
