Kenneth Phillips Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 13, 2023.
Kenneth Phillips, 82, of Ypsilanti, MI, passed away on July 12, 2023. He was born on January 12, 1941, in Johnson City, TN.

To know Kenny was to love him. He dedicated his life to caring for his family and being a good friend. He moved to Michigan at the young age of 14 with his brother, and worked tirelessly to support himself. Kenny began working at Kroger at the age of 15, where he spent the next 32 years as a meat cutter until he was forced to medically retire. Kenny was always known for his generosity and would never let anyone go hungry, always trying to get them to eat even just one cookie.

In his free time, Kenny enjoyed shooting pool, bowling, and playing cards. He loved spending time with his family and friends, making sure everyone had a good time and felt included. His warm and welcoming personality made him a beloved figure in his community.

Kenny is survived by his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Patsy Phillips, son Ken Phillips, daughters Dana (Bob) Phillips and Rhonda (Ralph) Phillips, grandchildren Jessica (Nick) King, Heather (Cody) Fergueson, Nickolas Graham, and Kayla (Jose) Orozco. He was blessed with two great-grandchildren Analee Orozco, and Brooks King. He is also survived by his brother Hugh (Jan) Phillips.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill Phillips.

A kind-hearted and dedicated man, Kenny will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, generosity, and friendship will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

Pops, undeniably, was the most outstanding man I've ever had the privilege to know. He was imbued with a soft and affectionate spirit. Growing up in a household managed by a single mother, I was always awestruck by the profound love and commitment he exhibited for his family. His family wasn't just limited to blood relations; children like me, who were fortunate enough to be part of the Phillips' household, were also considered family. Whether it was spending Friday evenings dining out, embarking on family trips to Tennessee, or celebrating Christmas together, I was consistently made to feel a part of it all. Pops, my deepest gratitude to you for modeling what it means to be a caring husband, a nurturing father, and a doting Papa! Now, it's time for you to go rest high on that high mountain, your earthly responsibilities have been duly fulfilled. My love for you will endure always.~

I cannot remember a time where Kenny wasn´t part of my life. My Dad and him were thick as thieves and had a love for each other that stood the test of time. He was such a kind, loving man who put those he loved first and always made them feel special. You´ll be forever in our hearts. Love and prayers to family and friends who mourn his passing. He will be missed by so many. Fly high Kenny!
